Summary of changes to Disc image (5.22 to 5.24)
- The following are the headline changes to modules or components in the HardDisc4 for 5.24.
- For brevity only the top 19 changes have been described, because many of the 654 changes in the full change logs are administrative in nature or a result of other work, but they all contribute to stability and ease of use.
- Applications Flasher, CloseUp, Puzzle, Patience, Puzzle, Squash, FontPrint, PrintEdit have all had cosmetic changes to improve Style Guide compliance.
!Access+
- Newly added application to set up a server to work with Access+ networking amongst small groups of RISC OS computers
!Boot
- An updated ABCLib is provided with thanks to Pineapple software
- Adds the previously missing RouteD module, for background update of network routes, controlled through InetSetup
- Adds the URI module which internet applications use to handle web addresses
- The CompressJPEG module now allows comments to be added to JPEG images it writes, for applications that support it

- Welcomes the return of vintage bitmap font Porterhouse designed by Graham Bartram for RISC OS 2
!Internet
- A port of command line trivial file transfer protocol (Tftp) client is now included as one of the available commands
- Includes a set of trusted root certificates as part of the ROOL TCP/IP security bounty
- Several minor bug fixes
!Unicode
- Now includes a list of all known character names, these are used to provide extra information in the Chars display
!Configure
- Recall CMOS defaults by asking the kernel what they should be (if no copy of ResetCMOS is provided on disc)
Disc setup plug-in
- The RAM disc size can be configured up to its new maximum size of 512MB
- Improvements to the layout of the dialogue
Screen setup plug-in
- Now groups the monitor types by manufacturer to make finding one easier
- When EDID is available, the monitor’s name will be in the top level monitor type menu as ‘Auto (MyModel)’
- When EDID is available, the resolution can be set to ‘Native’ to pick the best combination possible for display
- Increased mode testing delay to 10s to account for monitors that are slow to sync
Sound setup plug-in
- There is now a popup menu from which the default audio controller can be selected in systems with more than one
Network setup plug-in
- When selection of DHCP requires a hostname, the hostname dialogue is now opened to correct the error instead of explaining how to change it in a long error message
- Dialogues showing Econet now refer to it as such, rather than ambiguous ‘Net’ or ‘AUN’
!ChangeFSI
- Can now convert ZSoft’s 24 and 32bpp PCX images
- Can now convert RISC OS 64k and 4k sprite images, as well as those with RGB colour ordering
- The offline JPEG converter, the work of IJG, has been updated as part of the ROOL JPEG bounty project
- Fix for a failure to convert images at the command line whose output sprite was larger than 64MB
- Fix for unwanted dark line at the righthand/bottom edge when the output scaling factor was not a whole number of pixels

User Guide
- Support material for the Draw and Paint tutorials, as well as a list of known * Commands, is now in the UserGuide directory
!HForm
- Re-ordered the questions that HForm asks prior to formatting, so the final confirmation question actually appears last
- Reports the product and manufacturer (where known) of SD cards
- Reports SCSI drives in drive number order rather than in SCSI id order
- Now supports formatting drives in finer granularity if FileCore can do so
!Maestro
- The notes and other graphics used to make up a score are now provided in 16 greys so their edges appear blended, and when in a 180dpi screen mode a high resolution set will be used
- The time signatures (eg. 4/4) are now shown in the PMS font rather than the System font
!Omni
- The missing clients for UNIX NFS, Econet, and Access protocols are now included
- Accepts user names up to 64 characters long
!Printers
- It is now possible to change the PostScript printer feeds to something other than their default
- Dialogues showing Econet now refer to it as such, rather than ambiguous ‘Net’
- Unavailable connection types, for example Parallel where there is no parallel port, are now greyed out
- A printer definition for Canon MF4690PL has been added
!SciCalc
- Some minor bug fixes relating to rounding errors being propagated, and for backwards compatibility prior to RISC OS 5
