RaspberryPi Meetings

Anyone thinking of going to this? http://londonraspi01.eventbrite.co.uk/ I’m now torn between that and my previous plan to go to the Alan Turing event at TNMOC which is annoyingly on the same day :-( Slightly further in the future there’s also this meeting: http://www.meetup.com/London-Raspberry-Pi-Faces/events/54323442/ There must be similar events going on outside London, and they give the chance to show RISC OS as another option for people to hack about with on their Pi’s. |

Maybe you’ll meet some people with Yorkshire roots and drag them along to Wakefield (or maybe not).
People are waiting for a few boards in Bristol. Get searching in your area, guys (and gals, if there are any)! [Edit: And there was a training day in March in Oxford. 1, 2.] |

Sorry to suggest what may be obvious to some of you, but as a follow-on from this, I have a suggestion to possibly increase crossover between the RPi and RISC OS at a local level. It could help raise awareness of both your club and RISC OS.
[Edit: For bonus points, persuade them to run a feature article on your club and its history. The year 2012 is the Beeb’s 30th3 and Arthur’s 25th, after all!] 1 Maybe making it clear that the board runs Linux, but that your group is interested in alternatively running RISC OS. A sentence about the club’s history would probably be a good idea too. 2 Or if they’re so desperate for stories that they’ll run a follow-up! |

There are a couple of upcoming events (both in Northwest England) scheduled. Maybe there’ve been others mentioned on the RPi forum which could also be listed here for people to consider.
The Warrington one also has some retro stuff courtesy of The Centre for Computing History. |

Southampton Acorn Users Group was, I believe, the first. I showed it last week (May 9th). |

Chris, what time did yours turn up at our meeting last Wed 9th? (Shh, the monitor-too-large-to-want-to-bother-faffing-around-with-on-the-bus is nothing Southampton need to know about. Oops, what have I said!) |

Chris, what time did yours turn up at our meeting last Wed 9th? 1900 until 2310.. There’s a MUG meeting on Saturday (19th) and I’ll be driving there so will take the Pi with me (plus monitor etc). No RISC OS image though I’m afraid… |

Bearing in mind Eric Schmidt’s latest partnership with Teach First, it may be worth putting the following in the diary too:

The Cambridge one is worth going to as there will be lots of RPi Foundation/Broadcom people there. Sadly I’m in London that day, otherwise I might have tried to sneak RISC OS into the proceedings somewhere… |

Next Monday (18th June) we will have a bunch of Raspberry Pi’s at ROUGOL :-) We will be going through the process of putting RISC OS on them and trying out various bits of software to see how well it runs. |

After that mayhem there will be a presentation at the London Raspberry Jam this wednesday about RISC OS: http://raspberrylondon-eorg.eventbrite.com/ I am going to see if we can blag a place into the Cambridge one too :-) |

Anyone fancy going along to this one: http://nottinghack.org.uk/?p=1285I may go along myself, subject to work commitments, but not sure I’m knowledgeable enough to explain the delights of RISC OS to the masses of Linux types. I suppose the boot time will pretty much sell itself! |

Keith, it looks as if you had direct output from the Pi to the projector. Did the ones in London & Cambridge simply take HDMI input? |
Theo Markettos (89) 919 posts |
The Computer Lab’s projector only takes VGA 1024×768, so we had a lot of faff with HDMI to VGA adaptors. The second one eventually worked, after about an hour of tearing hair out and with 3 minutes to go. Everyone else was doing Powerpoint shows – Keith’s was the only one to run on a Pi. |

In london we had the benefit of the screen being a big Plasma so its native resolution was 1920 × 1080 and had an HDMI input. In Cambridge (thanks to Theo for going downstairs on the Friday night to find out and then thanks to Leo for building a custom ROM!) we had an analogue only 1024 × 768 connection. Once we had a HDMI to VGA converter that worked we could then just plug in and go. As Theo said it took a lot of faffing but we got there in the end! Looking at the location of the Bristol Raspberry Jam I would guess that it might be a bit more like Cambridge than London… |

Thanks, both Theo and Keith. |

There’s another Raspberry Jam in Bristol on Monday 15th October here |
