The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group Of London will be: Game Development – Presented by Squaregames and AMCOG Games Monday 19th March 2018, 7:45pm The Blue-Eyed Maid (upstairs in the restaurant) http://www.rougol.jellybaby.net/meetings/ There has recently been a bit of an upsurge in games development on RISC OS, after many years of none at all! This has included brand new games, plus ports from other platforms and updated releases for modern hardware. At this month’s meeting we will hear from some game developers about their experiences and plans. Many will now be familiar with Tony Bartram of AMCOG Games, who now has a portfolio of games and also a development kit to aid other programmers, despite only starting out on RISC OS a few years ago. Tim H-Smith, aka Squaregames, is a recent returnee to the RISC OS fold. He started out with an Electron at the age of 6, then used Archimedes and later RISC OS machines, until moving over to Windows PCs in 1999 and becoming a game developer. However the desire to get back into ARM coding has proved too tempting and he is now looking to convert a game he wrote for Windows, Android, and Wii, called Hero: The Realm, across to RISC OS and is looking for input from the community. Discussions have already started on the StarDot forum and Tim is looking forward to meeting fellow RISC OS users and developers at ROUGOL :-) Come along and join in the discussions about what features you like in a game and what you hope to see developed/ported in the future. |
