Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club would like to remind everyone in the RISC OS and 8-bit communities that the Wakefield Acorn & RISC OS Computer Show will be taking place next weekend, on Saturday 21st April. The event is open from 10.30am until 4.30pm, with admission £5 on the door. The platform’s premier event in the North is in its regular venue at the Cedar Court Hotel near Wakefield, and there are over twenty exhibitors confirmed as attending. Those from the RISC OS scene include AMCOG Games, Archive Magazine, Chris Hall, CJE Micro’s and 4D, Drag ’n Drop, Impression X, the Midlands User Group, MW Software, Organizer, Orpheus Internet, R-Comp & R-Comp Interactive, RISC OS Open Ltd, RISCOSbits, Sine Nomine Software, Soft Rock Software and Steve Fryatt. The 8-bit names include Daniel Jameson, Flax Cottage Educational Archive, Retro Acorn, Retro Hardware and Rob Coleman. The popular Show Theatre will be operating from 11am until 4pm, with talks scheduled from R-Comp & R-Comp Interactive, RISC OS Open Ltd, Sine Nomine Software, CJE Micro’s & 4D, and AMCOG Games. All those attending the show will be able to enter the Prize Draw: tickets cost £1, with the chance to win a Raspberry Pi 3+ with an Ident CE case, or an Amazon Gift Voucher worth £15. The Charity Stall will also be present, aiming to add to the £18,000 that WROCC have raised for the local Wakefield Hospice over the years. Located just off junction 39 of the M1 to the south of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, the venue is simple to find. Access by car is easy, as the hotel can be seen from the motorway junction. For those arriving by public transport, there are regular local buses from Wakefield city centre: details are on the website. Full details of exhibitors, theatre presentations, travel and accommodation can be found at www.wakefieldshow.org.uk |

I have a request. A direct audio feed to VinceH (or whoever is videoing the talks if not him) would also be useful. TIA Dave |

What I’ve done for the last couple of years(ish?) is strain my own hearing when preparing the videos for upload so that I can add the audience questions as subtitles. (Condensed down as much as possible, because sometimes the questions can be a bit rambling as people try to formulate their questions on the fly). I’m not sure how practical a direct audio feed would be, given that my camera is usually at the back of the room. Ruth Gunstone (one of the Wakefield mob) has also recorded the talks for the last couple of years – and has a much better set up than my single, cheap camera, recording the video feed to the projector as well. A direct audio feed into her equipment is probably more practical. However, she doesn’t appear to have uploaded the videos from 2017 – only those from 2016. |

Sine Nomine Software will be attending the show. We have new releases of RiscOSM and Impact on the way, but at this point I can’t say whether they will be ready for sale at the show. We will certainly be able to give people a preview of the new features. RiscOSM: a style editor, allowing you to change how the various features are displayed on the maps. |

Thanks for the suggestions. They have been passed on to Ruth and Peter, who run the show theatre. It could be a bit late to make changes to the technical setup with only a week to go, of course, but we’ll see. |

Greetings, All! Ruth here. I, along with Peter Richmond will be looking after the AV for the theatre presentations. It’s my intention to record the presentations (with the presenters’ permissions, obviously) and the recording should be available shortly after the show. Any on-the-day technical issues aside, it will contain audio, a camera feed of the presenter and a direct feed of whatever appears on the theatre screen. We will certainly be providing an audience mic for Q&As :-) In response to Vince: I can supply a direct audio feed – if you can accept a line-level balanced signal. Hope that helps alleviate any concerns! Here’s to a great show! |

I’ve no idea. I’m pretty sure the camera can take an external audio source, but I suspect it might be nothing more than a 3.5mm microphone socket. I’ll check ASAP – but if it can accept the feed, and it’s practical to do so given where I put the camera, that’d be brilliant, thanks. |

Sadly, the answer is no – the socket I was thinking of is actually output only. I’m limited to the built in microphone. |

And . . . . just in time for the Wakefield RISC OS Show 2018, here are the recordings from 2017! Sorry the quality’s not brilliant, but I’m still getting to grips with the software. I expect the 2018 recordings to be much better. :-) Steve Revill https://youtu.be/rvgpuJsrqpw Andrew Rawnsley https://youtu.be/jekx5aCa8o4 Chris Evans https://youtu.be/c5i2kMotsw0 Mystery Announcement https://youtu.be/UMZMpZMspV0 Sine Nomine https://youtu.be/9tghQqq3TQc |

Iconbar has a show report and pictures if you were not able to attend. Thanks to the organisers for a really great event – worth the trek to Yorkshire. They even arranged the weather. |

Many thanks for that speedy service to us RISC OS people far far away (currently Fuerteventura :-)). |
