Interested in an ARM-based laptop?

As usual after a show, I am both a) overrun with things that need to be done and b) not well. I intend to put things up, and have created PDfs etc for that purpose. I suspect most folks just don’t realise how harsh doing a show actually is (at least for me). Patience please. |

Sorry if I sounded harsh (which wasn’t my intention); Of course I understand your situation. So, here’s me, being patient ;-) |

Hey, don’t worry. I wish I had an army of minions to deploy to do all these little jobs, but that’s not to be. On the plus side, I’m just burning a new laptop rom to test :) |

Go on, prod a web page author into putting up the details and allow people to add themselves to the list. Push, push, push…
Tease. |

Just to point out, we’re talking about information web pages. The rest of the world has moved on to sales videos. ;-) As for the info website itself – a suggestion: why not set up a wiki, revoke global edit access, and then give edit rights to certain people. That way the minions can keep the information updated (from the comfort of their own armchair even) and since it’s not globally world writeable it shouldn’t get vandalised as much as other open wikis. |

Strangely, there isn’t one single person in the office at work that does more than tolerate those video attempted sales. You could put that down to age but the youngest isn’t that long out of college and he just about tolerates that waste of time.
Next you’ll be suggesting that more than one person should have sufficient access to remove spam in these forums. Delegation. Nah, never catch on. |

Taking my point about 100 people vs the Internet, I really don’t understand the lack of active web presence for many RISC OS organisations. There are boatloads of off-the-shelf solutions for quickly managing content (self or cloud-hosted). There is also this very site, as a rather more central example. Maintaining some public content can take the same time as replying to some messages on here. Look at this tool, for example: https://ekko.site If you use Facebook (I don’t!) then for a tiny cost, you can use the Facebook app on your phone to update your web site. Simple! I guess another option is that someone volunteers to help update content, perhaps with some sort of approval process. Having said that, I could understand a reluctance to volunteer help, when an organisation is commercial (rather like the Castle license!). |

Sounds like something Dilbert’s boss would suggest as an excuse for cancelling vacation/weekends/sleep. |

Quick update for the next show’s discussion. Thanks to a dumb-ass Ozzie and a bunch of bullets, YouTube livestreaming from a phone is now only available to channels with at least 1000 subscribers (I have 49!). Anybody fit the bill? One can still livestream from a computer/webcam. |

What in the fresh… I just hit reply on my phone and had the RISC OS Facebook page open! |

On Arcade, it was postulated that YouTube did this in order to cut down the number of live feeds they would need to monitor. The thing is, of I was caught up in a newsworthy situation (consider if I was in Paris the other day…), I might have thought to live stream what was going on. But, you know, normal people don’t get to choose when things like that happen around them, just as normal people who wish to share an event probably won’t have first looked at their subscriber count… I usually have my phone on me, and could get the camera active in around 15 seconds, or “about a minute” for YouTube… Oh well, YouTube’s loss. |
