SW Show 2019 - extra exhibtitor space available for pd authors and enthusiasts

Because we are taking the two main rooms at the new SouthWest Show venue in Bristol, the hotel has offered us extra space this year at no extra cost, in a connecting suite. As such, if there are any authors of pd/freeware software who’d like to have a table but were put off by the idea of paying for space, we can offer the extra space for the cost of entry fee (5ukp). If you have a good time, we’d suggest that an extra fiver to help the running costs, but if that’s a problem, the basic “fiver” cost will be enough. We can’t offer to move existing exhibitors to this (unless they just want extra space) due to cost of room hire for the show as a whole, but if you’re someone who wasn’t planning to take a stand, perhaps this is an opportunity to show off your BASIC, C or perhaps website. Please let us know. Note that the show now takes place in Bristol, close to Temple Mead station, so it should be much more accessible for people travelling. The show takes place on the 16th of Feb (a week’s time). |

Is this something that has to be arranged in advance or is it possible to request a table on the door? |

Probably better to get in touch with either Andrew or Richard and arrange it in advance – leaving it until the day means you’d be risking there not being space. As an aside, though; Andrew: if the extra space is where I think it is, then isn’t that the ideal room for the show theatre? Or have the hotel offered you something else that I didn’t see when I first checked it out? |

IIRC When we first checked out the hotel we didn’t get to see the theatre room because it was in use. so it might not be where you think it is! |

Don’t forget that I saw it previously. It was my second visit when we popped in before last year’s show – the purpose of which was so that Richard could check it out. I saw the theatre room on that previous visit. While not massive, it’s sizeable enough that a few extra tables could be set up in there (IIRC not much smaller than one of the side rooms at the St Giles) – and I distinctly recall Katarzyna saying to me that if both the main rooms were booked for the show, she could arrange for that one FOC as well. Hence why my worry is that that is what Andrew is referring to, and reason I asked the question. |

Aha! After saying that, I checked my email, and there’s a message from Richard that mentions a dedicated theatre room – so Andrew must be talking about something else again. So the extra space is something I didn’t see, and is excellent news! |

Since we have to put tables out the night before, and don’t want to leave things looking “messy”, it is probably best to let us know ahead of time, if possible please. Also, we can add you to the website, so that people know to look out for you! Or not, if you’re shy :) |

In that case, I would like to have a table. Is there a formal booking procedure, or is it sufficient to just voice my interest here?
I’m happy with this as well. |

Great stuff – I’ll try and ensure you’re added to the list tomorrow, when we’re back to work. Look forward to seeing you there :) Also, if you’d like to say what you’ll be showing/talking about, then that can go up to. Email rcomp rcomp co uk (preferred, for easier updating of info) or post here. |

Hi Andrew, Sorry for the late notice but MUG would also like to take up the opportunity to have a stand at the show. I have sent an email which hopefully will get to you. Thanks for supporting the community. Doug |

Thanks Doug – all sorted. I also forgot to say that if you’re coming the day before, there’s a “get together” the night before for everyone RISC OS-related – we usually have a meal and a chin-wag etc. Although it perhaps made more sense when we were at the Webby out in the wilds, we’ll be continuing this tradition at the Arnos Manor in Bristol, although we may end up going doing the road for food – I think Vince is taking the lead on this. |

Yes, I’m proposing we eat at The Black Castle. (We – the Bristol group tried it out in December). It’s just over the road and ‘down a bit’ from the hotel – easy walking distance. (If you’re coming in by car via the M32, it should be on your left just before you reach the hotel). They have a booking system, but it’s more or less a sit where you want and order at the bar type set up. For a large group, though, it’s best to book in advance so they can set aside a suitable table or tables – so with that in mind, anyone likely to be joining us should let me know ASAP. Ideally, I’ll contact them Thursday (hoping they don’t have mass bookings and become full!) Probably best if anyone planning on coming emails me at vince@softrock.co.uk rather than post here. The same goes for Saturday night as well, thinking about it – but I should probably make a provisional booking on the basis I can give them an actual number on the day. |
