Doom Trilogy update with Sigil 5th episode support and music

We have just issued a free update for “Doom Trilogy” (2017/2018 version) with support for the newly-release Sigil 5th Episode from John Romero, one of the original Doom level designers. Sigil offers many hours of extra Doom-ing (I’d estimate at least 5-10 hours, depending on how thorough you are, and whether you use the cheats!). As well as adding support for this, we’ve also updated the HQ music feature exclusive to the RISC OS version, which once installed, allow all RISC OS Doomers to enjoy Sigil with full sound and music, as intended. This means that you can have HQ music across all five Doom episodes, plus Doom2, TNT and Plutonia. There are, of course, some bug fixes and general compatibility improvements for add-ons, and it is now possible to use the level select window to access Doom levels in the 5th episode and beyond. Indeed, it now supports up to 9 episodes of Doom, and 99 levels of Doom2! Of course, you wouldn’t use the level selector to skip over the difficult parts, would you!?! Additionally, I believe you can buy an alternative “Buckethead” soundtrack for Sigil online (MP3s) which can also be used with this update. Indeed, it is now possible to associate MP3 music tracks with any Doom add-ons (PWADs). This 2019 update is free to download for existing !Store owners, via the “My Software” window. |

we’ve also updated the HQ music feature exclusive to the RISC OS version, which once installed, allow all RISC OS Doomers to enjoy Sigil with full sound and music, I see there are two Doom packages in !Store, “Doom Trilogy” and “Final Doom”. I have “Final Doom”; is it compatible with “Doom Trilogy”, and do I qualify for a free upgrade? |

I think you may have both (one bought at a show), but I can’t recall off the top of my head – am stuck on a “you are number 11 in the queue)” holding pattern at the moment. Final Doom is completely different to Doom Trilogy. It contains two Doom-2 sized games (Plutonia and TNT) – 74 levels – plus the shareware version of Doom1 for an extra 8 or 9. Doom Trilogy contained Ultimate Doom 1, Doom 2 and the Master levels for Doom 2, plus bonus Wolfenstein 3D and Wolfendoom. Since Sigil is a Doom 1 mod, it needs a full-version Doom 1 WAD to base itself on. That means it is Doom Trilogy ONLY. For Final Doom users, however, I have another trick up my sleeve. In between working hard on the Laptop software, and being ill, I’ve been working on FreeDoom and FreeDoom2. These are complete level sets mirroring the structure Doom 1 and Doom 2, but with open-source levels/graphics/sounds/music. I have been mixing digital audio versions of all the 70+ music tracks in FreeDoom, and they’re now downloadable for Final Doom owners, although I haven’t updated the Final Doom zip with the FreeDoom files yet (they’re quite large). Just requires a bit more thinking through, about how best to deliver that content (in the main download, or as a separate download). Either way, it should be ready soon. I am now number 4 in the queue… |

I totally missed the release of the Sigil WAD, I know what I’m doing today now :) |

Have fun! It’s a pretty fun WAD, but quite tough to beat without cheating. Mind you, you wouldn’t expect Episode 5 to be easy, would you! |

There are other wads with Episode 5 – for instance Visions Of Eternity (voe.wad). |
