Disc Image

Having had a couple of SD card failures after having installed quite a bit of software and documents, I wonder if there are any tools to clone or image the cards to avoid having to install it all again on a fresh card |

Win32DiskImager allows you to create the SD card from an image. Once you’ve installed all your favourite software it allows you to read back the image and save it as a backup (it will read back the whole size of the card). Then at least you will only have to re-flash the SD card to restore everything. |

Yes, but how do I create the image in the first place? |

The same software also allows you to create an image of the SD card, using the ‘Read’ instead of ‘Write’ button. |

This doesn’t work under Win7. In any case, presumably this is not what is wanted, but rather a clone of the whole sd card, including the FAT partition with the *.elf files and bootloader etc |

There’s a link to other Win7 friendly software which will do it for you here Both Win32DiscImager and the one linked from the RaspberryPi forums above will clone SD cards and/or write images back to them for you, although you need the one linked above for Win7, it seems. |

Re: " I wonder if there are any tools to clone or image the cards ?" The easiest way to do it is to use the Pi itself running Raspbian. You will need a USB card reader as well. Just use the dd command to make a backup of the RiscOS CD card. |

If you own the NutPi pack, you can just use CloneDisc, which is included. |

Thanks for all the plugs for CloneDisc, guys – I haven’t really announced it beyond my own website yet, must get round to that! |

Yeah, congratulations on the release, Ben. It looks great, and I’m really looking forward to the other implied disc tools that are in the pipeline. Must order a NutPi! |
