The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group Of London is: RISC OS Direct discussion, presented by Bernard Boase Monday 16th March 2020, 7.45pm The Duke of Sussex (upstairs in the Chichester Room) Announced at last year’s London Show, RISC OS Direct is a collaboration between RISC OS Developments and WiFi Sheep to produce a beginner friendly installation of RISC OS for the Raspberry Pi along with a series of YouTube tutorial videos to show how to make best use of it. The Pi disc image and the first of the videos were released to coincide with last month’s South West Show. At this month’s ROUGOL meeting Bernard Boase will be leading us on a tour of the new distribution to see what is included, particularly for new users, and how this differs from the standard RISC OS Open image. As this is the first release there will no doubt be things that could be changed/improved, so be sure to join in the discussion with your own thoughts and ideas. If time allows we will also watch some/all of the first tutorial video. As an added bonus Bernard will have his Pi connected to the pub wifi using PiFi v3, and will use that to demonstrate the latest beta release of the Iris web browser, which was also released to RISC OS Developments subscribers at the SW Show. Full info here – http://www.rougol.jellybaby.net/meetings/index.html ROUGOL’s venue is easy to reach by public transport from in and around London and the south east, being only a couple of minutes walk from Waterloo train and tube station. Parking is available outside the pub, on Coral St, from 6.30pm. ROUGOL meetings are free to attend, and food & drink is plentiful (but not free!). |

I have just realised that this thread never got a knot tied in it. Of course anyone who attended that evening last month will know that I did not turn up, though they will have guessed why: it was the very Monday when Government issued strong advice to eschew pubs. Also my family asked me not to go on public transport either. So, my apologies all round. The subjects, however, of RISC OS Direct and of WiFi Sheep’s video tutorials (now two episodes) remain of great interest, and I would like to encourage supporters of RISC OS who can pretend to be newcomers to try out those offerings and give feedback and suggestions to the publishers: R-Comp and RODev on the RPi distro, and Tom Williamson on the videos. If people want to discuss them here, then perhaps we need a new thread in Community Support. (it’s not sensible to add any discussion here in Announcements). Knot. |
