PushSend updated

I have updated the PushSend app on my website https://davehigton.me.uk to version 0.11 (2020 November 14). This adds the ability to choose the sound that accompanies the notification; the option to send a notification on startup; a website button; and licence conditions (GPL for the app, freeware for the library so as to avoid any legal issue when linking to it). It’s all free of charge. This version has also been rewritten internally to use the URL_Fetcher and AcornHTTP modules, which simplifies it greatly. It also uses AcornSSL for the secure connection to Pushover. PushSend gives the ability to send notifications from RISC OS applications, normally to a mobile phone, using the Pushover service. Pushover isn’t free, but at the moment it’s an inexpensive one-time fee. Notifications usually come in within 2 or 3 seconds of being sent, so it’s mostly real-time, although there is no guarantee of timing. This is only likely to be of interest to people writing their own apps, but adding notifications to an existing app should be extremely easy. The library is just a short BASIC file to be included by the LIBRARY command. Help is given to allow easy calling from other languages. Enjoy, and as usual I’d be glad to hear from anyone who makes use of it, for better or for worse. Suggestions for improvements are welcome! |

No sooner had I posted version 0.11 than I realised that, if it sends a startup message, it should also send a closedown message. So I’ve added that (the two messages are optional, but you either have both or neither). Also the message, if sent, includes the computer’s timestamp. Version 0.12 (2020 November 16) is up there now. |
