Patched PRMs

Hello, Some years ago I was responsible for producing the RISCOS Ltd. Programmer’s Reference Manuals CD, which was primarily a conversion of the FrameMaker format PRMs vols. 1-4 & 5a, Acorn C/C++ and BASIC manuals into HTML. It shipped with some issues which never went fixed. Until now… https://github.com/dpt/PatchedPRMs is a collection of patches which starts to modernise the HTML and fixes many issues including the portions of RANDOMLY SHOUTY TEXT and the crappy PNGs used to replace maths symbols. It’s supplied as patch files which are applied to the contents of the PRMS CD. Regards, |

What a strange way to present this. I just want to download the patch files – can we have alink please. I don’t want to get involved with the aptly named github. |

Nice. Now I need to dig the CD out and have a play. :)
Is it? Git’s pretty standard for uploading code. Seems the most sensible option to me.
You don’t need to get “involved” with Github. You can just download stuff. There’s two ways you can do that: 1. Click a file from the Github page, then click “Raw” at the top, then save that file. 2. From the Github page, click “Download Zip” (under the green “Code” button’s popup) and you’ll get a zipfile containing everything. Or, of course, you can use a git client to clone the repository, but it’s by no means required to do that if you just want the files. |

While this won’t completely avoid GitHub, you can just get the zip archive which has the patches inside it. Edit: Andrew snuck in there! :) |

Rather than being an entitled fusspot, Frankly it is tits on a teapot whether they are on github, porn-hub or My networked A5000. Moaning about the location is… unnecessary. The fact they are being made available to you is more the point. I realize my sentiments will go over most folk’s heads (NB edit for Chris’ edification !!!) (I thought the “Amiga” community was bad for “entitlement”..) —> Touché. Not a coder, nor an expert, but do appreciate when someone shares something that may be useful, and actually know @David Thomas personally. Thanks again for your efforts in maintaining and making available. |

@Chris, you can drop in on the MUG zoom meeting this Saturday, where by luck or coincidence we are trying a beginners workshop for git greenhorns. You could learn a bit about git which will either confirm your views or maybe help to change your mind:-) Same zoom link as usual – write to me if you would like to know it. |

PRMs easily patched here, on a Mac. Thanks for providing the update, and the reasoning behind it. |

will go over most folks heads missing apostrophe… |

The second option is perhaps not the best place to find patches of anything, as you might find the contents of the patches being somewhat unsavoury. Especially if the patches are crusty and sort of cream coloured.
I’ve long ago come to the conclusion that “just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s good”, and “it can do more stuff than its predecessors, with a corresponding bump in complexity”. |

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/folks My turn to be pedantic. According to that, you can use “Folks” without apostrophe to speak in a friendly way to people you do not know. I concede however that folk’s may have been better used, therefore I have edited just for you. It does beg the question, since you disputed my apostrophy or lack thereof rather than the sentiment expressed… but if that bounces your balls, fair enough. If you think you can do better – have at it…. oh wait no? Then be grateful for the fact that someone else has put time and effort in to do the work for you… was all I was trying to say. No wonder risc (sic, yes deliberate) OS is still lacking in so many areas…. @Dave if I were you mate I’d password that download and charge £45 a pop. It would give the whiners a whole lot more to get frisky about.
@Rick Dude! Don’t give me nightmares please. Friend worked in a Computer shop, the things (“deposits”) he found…. and no I’m not talking about on hard drives. Anyways lots of luv May all your next bowel movements NOT be angry hedgehogs! |

I think the thing here isn’t so much the friendliness of the address, it’s because it’s a possessive. We aren’t talking about the folks, we are talking about something passing over their heads.
<fx: spots hot chocolate clean across the room> Now who’s giving nightmares to whom? |

I think I have still have the PRM CD somewhere lying around so I will have to give this a go. Thanks for making the patches available and I think GitHub is a great place to distribute this as lets not forget the rest of the developer world lives works on Git these days with GitHub being the most popular place for people sharing code. |
