Using Git on RISC OS

As requested by people who were unable to attend the June MUG meeting with
topic “Using Git on RISC OS”, here is a link to the video.

The video has been severely cut to get it to a watchable length. The
original 110 minutes is a crisp 38 minutes after editing.

There was also a request for a copy of the presentation material to be
shared. This is also now available as a zip file on GitHub.

130MB – too big to be worth downloading to watch on RISC OS
but no problem streaming to raspbery pi linux or viewing it on a windows machine.

Thank you for sharing; I missed the event, so although you’ve shared the video, an interactive session at the London User Group would be good too. ;)

A minor bit of “matters arising”.

*touch no RISC OS equivalent

There is a RISC OS touch, in git. (Fortunately it can be got without resorting to git.) It is a BASIC file which is released in the DDE and build environments.

Just tried it today and it works. Gremlins yesterday most likely.
But I will be staying with the CoreUtils version of touch as it is more convenient if you have CoreUtils run at Boot.

Topic drift, but for completeness.

The ROOL touch is a subset of the linux version.

This is ROOL’s, it does the basics, :-

*touch
Usage:   Touch [options] <file...>
         restamps file(s) with the current date and time
Options: -r  Uses a reference file's stamp instead of current
*

The coreutils touch, version 8.30, has more :-

*touch --help

...

  -a                     change only the access time
  -c, --no-create        do not create any files
  -d, --date=STRING      parse STRING and use it instead of current time
  -f                     (ignored)
  -h, --no-dereference   affect each symbolic link instead of any referenced
                         file (useful only on systems that can change the
                         timestamps of a symlink)
  -m                     change only the modification time
  -r, --reference=FILE   use this file's times instead of current time
  -t STAMP               use [[CC]YY]MMDDhhmm[.ss] instead of current time
      --time=WORD        change the specified time:
                           WORD is access, atime, or use: equivalent to -a
                           WORD is modify or mtime: equivalent to -m
      --help     display this help and exit
      --version  output version information and exit
