The Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club are pleased to announce that the 2022 Wakefield Acorn & RISC OS Computer Show will take place on Saturday 23rd April 2022, back at its usual venue of the Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield. It will be the 25th “in-person” Wakefield Show, following the cancellation of the anniversary event in 2020. The organisers are pleased to report that many of the exhibitors from the 32- and 8-bit worlds who were intending to be present in 2020 are already planning to attend in 2022. The familiar show theatre will also be back, with presentations throughout the day. More details will be published on the website over the coming months. The show will feature the welcome return of the Charity Stall, raising much needed funds for Wakefield Hospice. Since 1996, our visitors have helped us reach a figure of around £25,000 for good causes. So put the date into your diary, and please do come along to the North’s premier RISC OS show — for all things RISC OS, Retro and Raspberry Pi related. If you are interested in booking a stand, please contact the organisers as soon as possible while space is still available. For more details, visit https://www.wakefieldshow.org.uk The Wakefield Acorn & RISC OS Computer Show is organised by members of the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club. |

The Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club regret to have to announce that, following discussions over the weekend with the venue of the Wakefield Acorn & RISC OS Computer Show, the event will not be returning to its usual home of the Wakefield Cedar Court Hotel in 2022. The over-running refurbishments which had already caused this year’s show to slip from April to May have been delayed yet again – with the result that the venue is now unlikely to be open until the autumn. The organisers are currently exploring possible alternative venues which might allow the event to take place within West Yorkshire on the same date, and hope to be able to provide further details within the next few weeks. In the meantime, we would encourage those planning to attend to continue to keep Saturday 21st May 2022 clear in your diaries – and look forward to welcoming you to a different location for the 25th Wakefield Show! |

Unfortunately I have booked into the Cedar Court Hotel in order to attend the show. I am probably not the only one. |

You should be able to ring the hotel and get a refund as the hotel is closed till Sept 5th. So all bookings should be being refunded. We are checking out the alternative venue today |

I, too, have booked a room but at the rate which allows cancellation with 24 hours’ notice. So I’m not rushing to do anything as I expect the hotel will contact me in due course. I did ring them but they didn’t know anything. |

Most staff were not fully aware of what was happening until late last week. If you have booked direct with the hotel, you should just contact them and request your money back, as they are closed to the public till Sept 5th, don’t assume they will contact you. If you have booked via one of the online booking companies you probably need to speak to them, pointing out the hotel is offically closed till 5th Sept. Worst case is you go to your Credit Card company in dispute. |

Wakefield Show: New Venue, Same DateThe good news is we have a new venue for the Wakefield Acorn & RISC OS Computer Show: it’s the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford, and remains on Saturday 21st May. Road access to the new venue is excellent: the hotel is located at the end of the M606 going into Bradford. The other good news is that the event will be all on the ground floor – so no stairs or lift to contend with! We will in fact have considerably larger show and theatre areas, enabling improved social distancing. The hotel events team have agreed we can be given a reduced room rate of £75 inclusive of breakfast based on single occupancy: this must be booked direct with the hotel on 01274 406 606. It is also worth checking the usual booking sites in case even better deals are available. The show website at https://www.wakefieldshow.org.uk has been updated with details of the new venue, including travel details for car and train. We’re still working on the local public transport information, and will update this as quickly as we can. There are also updated website banners for the event, containing the new venue details, available to download if you can help us spread the word. We look forward to seeing you all again in person, for our 25th physical show. |

It’s been gently pointed out to us that the download link for these was broken. If anyone is disappointed not to be able to get their set of images, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s fixed now. :-) |

Nice, downloading it now and will add it to my blog. I’ll probably be back to the US in May, so won’t be able to attend the show, but all the best to you guys! |

It is also worth checking the usual booking sites in case even better deals are available. The hotel web site is offering a ‘weekender’ rate for a 2-night stay that includes B&B, Parking and £15 off dinner on the first night. This is £64.50 per night (i.e. £129 for the two nights) but is fully payable in advance and not refundable. The hotel tell me that the ‘special’ £75 per night B&B/parking inclusive is also payable in full in advance and non-refundable. They have cancelled my reservation at Wakefield for me as well (but I had to book on their web site as they couldn’t see the £129 rate). |

I am getting slightly worried that with less than 2 months to go, the list of exhibitors is still rather small. I am hoping that R-Comp, ROOL and RISC OS Developments will be attending and that there will be some interesting talks in the theatre. As it was only a week ago that the new venue was settled, I am, perhaps, wrong to be concerned. Hopefully there is still time for those coming to Wakefield (sorry Bradford) to get an advert into the next edition of Archive magazine. |

Chris, please don’t worry, I have simply not had time to update the exhibitor list on the site, hopefully I will have more time over the weekend. Been rather busy sorting new floor plans and the many other things involved in setting up a show at a new venue, as have most of committee in one way or another. This is in addition to me helping organise a memorial event for my late mother delayed due to the Covid restrictions, etc.. No one who was booked to come to the cancelled 2020 show has said they are not coming to the 2022 event, all bookings were carried over. Things to note is the room is fully air conditioned and the floor space is approx 30% bigger then at the ones at Wakefield Cedar Court, so more space for social distancing. Hand Sanitiser will be available around the hotel public areas and we are looking at having more at a couple of places extra for the show. Threate area is also bigger. It’s also all on the ground floor, so no lift or stairs involved. |

Yes, a full back page has been reserved for an advert when I receive it. There’s still time. Chris, when you have time, it would be nice to have Archive on the list of exhibitors. |
