Releasing some old favourites

In response to repeated requests, and thanks to Google Drive making things so easy even I can’t find an excuse to avoid it, I’ve started to release some things. http://goo.gl/NCNzM (I’ll point my old domain there when I get around to it) First up, IconMover, ColourFiler, HaikuError and FixUpDown. All are 32bit compatible. |

IconMover is very cool – at last I can get the RAMdisc in the right place. i.e. to the left of the Apps folder along with the drives! |

A more permanent solution to the miscreant would be desirable. Whether it is ResourceFiler or RamFSFiler that’s at fault I don’t know, but it would only be a one word patch (not that ROMPatch is any use with nightly builds!) or a trivial source change. However, it does allow you to stick all the icons on the left and pretend it’s Windows. ;-) |

If you’re taking requests – can I put in a request for the module utility/diagnostic utility? |

As promised last week and originally mentioned in 2011 I’ve released !InAWindow, which defines the TskBasic and TaskApp filetypes. These are exactly like BASIC (&FFB) and Absolute (&FF8) except they run in a TaskWindow. I find TskBasic particularly useful. They are in the usual place. !RMA and !Modules will follow when I’ve weeded out the more embarrassing bits. |

Rather than use up more filetypes, by having for each language an extra filetype for running programs in taskwindows, why not just download !TaskW from http://www.wra1th.plus.com/zip/TaskW.zip. Then drag the program to the TaskW iconbar icon to run it in a taskwindow. I used to use separate filetypes for ArmBob, awk, Gofer, Lua … in a taskwindow until I saw that this was just an ad hoc mess. If you are running your program from an Obeyfile just change the Obeyfile’s type to TaskObey. If you run the program by doubleclicking, then drag it to the TaskW iconbar icon. Simples. |

Yes, sorry about the typo. |

Not at all. So common for me that I routinely type commands in a text editor and then cut and paste. |

Gavin, there is no shortage of filetypes. If one must drag a file to an application one has had to navigate to and launch, it would be easier to press Ctrl-F12 and shift-drag the file into the resulting TaskWindow. No download required. However, please be reassured that I won’t be defining any new filetypes. For any purpose. |

Fair comment. But I am extremely lazy, and if I can do something without having to use the keyboard then that is how I do it. Actually I would prefer to be able to do things without even using a mouse – a monitor that can read where my eyes are pointing, for example. To be able to use the computer while in the bath – thinking stuff onto the screen – that is my ambition. |

No! It’s UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A. I thought everybody knew that! :-P |
