C Wimp Tutorial Updates

Since I can’t find an “official” thread about my Wimp Programming In C Tutorial, it’s probably best to start a new one to note that – as part of something else that I’ve been working on – I’ve finally got around to publishing both the source for the site and the tools needed to do something with it. It’s only just over a year after I said that I’d do it at last year’s London Show, The source for the tutorial itself can be found as a large pile of XML, images and example files at https://github.com/steve-fryatt/wimp-tutorial, while the “XML Docs” tools to build it into something more useful are at https://github.com/steve-fryatt/xmldocs. The words “more useful” are used in that sentence in a very specific context, with reference to the somewhat home-brew content management system that my website uses – but it might provide a base from which to work if anyone wishes to use the tutorial elsewhere. The conversion tools are mostly in Perl, but call on some Linux libraries and utilities that I doubt have been ported to RISC OS… sorry. This doesn’t mean that I’ve stopped work on the tutorial, incidentally – just that I still believe that stuff like this is far better out there in a public space on a clear licence. If anyone would like to work on it, please get in touch as I’d much prefer to collaborate on a route forward than to see it fork into different directions! |
