The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group Of London is: RISC OS 35th Birthday, presented by Liam Proven + special guests Monday 20th June 2022, 7.45pm The Duke of Sussex (upstairs in the Chichester Room from 6.30pm) Also online via Zoom from 7.30pm https://rougol.jellybaby.net/meetings/ This month is the 35th anniversary of the release of the Archimedes, and hence RISC OS (Arthur), so we will be having a birthday celebration :-) Our host for the evening will be journalist Liam Proven who will be chatting with some special guests from the original RISC OS development team to look back at those exciting times and how things have evolved in the many years since then. Directions to the venue by car and public transport are on the website: https://rougol.jellybaby.net/venue.htmlThis meeting will also be held online via Zoom (but do join us in the pub if you can!). Please contact us to receive a link to the meeting. If you have attended any previous meeting, it’s the same link. |

The special guests from the RISC OS development team will include Paul Fellows, Stuart Swales, Richard Manby, and Tim Dobson. I have no comment on the rumour that Sophie Wilson might also be joining us… ;-) |

No, you’ll just have to join the meeting live :-) (real answer – probably) |

Since it’s on Zoom, it’s just a matter of hitting the Record button. But, assuming I’ve worked out the time zones correctly, it’s been and gone anyway! |

It was fun! |

And apparently no shareable videos – what a shame. BTW, did Sophie turn up? |

Yet… Sadly not. :-( |

So, why isn’t the 35th anniversary announced on the home page under news? Wake up ROOL! |

You mean you don’t have El Reg, XKCD, and SMBC bookmarked for regular visits?!? But, yes, em-ba-ra-sing! |

;) No doubt, head down and beavering away on the next release of RISC OS. Always good to celebrate, and with the big 40 coming soon! |

Hmm, a day has passed and still nothing on the only official site of the OS in question. Everybody away on holiday? That means they’re probably camping out in a tent in terminal 4. Assuming they aren’t stuck in a train station. Or are they arguing over who does what bit of the new stack? <poke><poke> ;) |

Perhaps, like me, they’re wondering why 35 is a special number. I thought it was the ROUGOL gathering that was the feature. |

A quick Google suggests that 35 is the best age to be. Old enough to have lots of useful life experience 1, but not old enough to be “over the hill” 2. 1 Can’t help but think I failed that part… 2 Which is, of course, not just highly subjective but also horrifically sexually biased – a woman is supposedly unmarriable by that age, while a grey haired bloke twice that age is “distinguished”, so take all of this with a massive pinch of salt. |
