Hacktober Fest 2022

To everyone interested,
Also this year the “RISC OS Community on GitHub” organisation will be part of Hacktober Fest. So, I am preparing the repos for tasks for people to do to earn points towards the gifts available while helping RISC OS.

What’s this about?

“First and foremost, Hacktoberfest is about contributing to open-source projects in whatever capacity each of us can.”

Who’s behind it?
Hacktober Fest is a Digital Ocean event that takes place every year. There are multiple organisations supporting it and it’s a fantastic opportunity for people to work together, for new engineers to improve their CVs (and so get more opportunities for interviews!), for people passionate about Open Source to share and contribute and for everyone to have some fun!

Bah, it’s a Linux thing, isn’t it?
Not at all, every year we organise it so that RISC OS can be part of it. This helps spreading the fun of coding or helping RISC OS projects in whichever capacity we can. You do not have to be an experienced coder to be part of this. As a result you could win gifts or ask to plant a tree to help our beloved planet to survive the madness some of us are doing to it.

What tasks would you like to see this year?
I am preparing a list of tasks for Hacktober Fest (for RISC OS), if you have ideas or suggestions for the tasks, please let me know in the comments below (or also via email is fine, just please be patient if I am slow to answer!).

Ok, quick answer to some questions I have received by few folks:

• Hacktober Fest is fully organized by Digital Ocean in collaboration with GitHub (and other partners), so you need to subscribe from the link I shared above in order to gain the points when helping us and win the gifts.
• You can only use GitHub or other Digital Ocean partners git repositories, not your own, I am sorry.
• Yes you can win multiple gifts, look at the link above for all the rules and details.
