I shall be demonstrating the pre-release (beta) Pinebook Pro running RISC OS at the BRU (Bristol RISC OS Users (Bristol Area RISC OS User Group)) meeting at The Open Arms (signage may still show The Colston Arms), St Michael’s Hill, Bristol, BS2 8DX on Wednesday 9th November 2022 from 7:15 pm. |

Sounds interesting :-) Have you tried Linux RO on the ‘Pinebook Pro’ – so you can use the Wifi? |

I only got it yesterday, that’s my next job. Wired internet via a USB/Ethernet dongle is plug and play under RISC OS. What is Linux RO. The Linux distro is Manjaro. |

Linux works with WiFi, as expected. |

I’m assuming Colin means this I had this running on a Pinebook Pro a year or so ago. Worked quite nicely, but it’s not for the feint hearted. |

I shall also be brining yet another small computer – this time its a Compute Module 4 Lite on a Waveshare Mini IO Board B which is fitted with 4 USB sockets, 2 HDMI sockets, Ethernet socket, NVMe drive and a switch. It dual boots into either Linux (on the NVMe drive, fitted underneath the IO board) or RISC OS (on the SD card, along with the dual boot firmware). So long as the PCI Express bus is populated, RISC OS works on the CM4, the only exception is the Sound system which does not yet work. The driver for the eMMc has been developed for the Pinebook Pro but not yet ported to the CM4. However the eMMc on CM4 boards fitted with this storage (which prevents the SD card from being used) can be used for the dual boot firmware, with the RISC OS boot drive relegated to a USB stick. |
