RISC OS Modules Database

Many years ago (about 20) I wrote a web page that allowed you to search through the contents of different RISC OS versions. It had remained online but not-updated for many years, but now seems like the time for an update. It has been updated to scan the ROM Images themselves to parse out the data (rather than relying on the output of “*Help Modules”) and as such has gained the ability to extract all the SWI and *Command data. If you have any suggestions for queries or comparisons that can be run on the data let me know, also if you have any of the ROM images I’m looking for 1 (or other missing ones) please get in touch. https://www.marutan.net/db/index.php#contrib In future the database could be extended to contain data on all modules from all parties, and work has progressed on that a fair way. 1 Known Missing ROMS

If anybody has this, I’d be interested in taking a look… |

I turned to the desk drawer behind me where there are some old OS ROMs – as I did the memory came back, at the start Acorn demanded their old EPROMS be returned, that’s why you will struggle to find Arthur 0.20. Shoulda done a *save, well that would have been no fun on floppy disc. What’s in the drawer 3.6 in two 42 pin chips. And four chips 28 pin, marked 537×006, 007, 008, 009 MSL27512, which are apparently EPROMs. |

64K each, so 256K in total. Some version of Arthur? I haven’t had any luck Googling the reference numbers. You may actually be on to something here, as looking at the ROM dumps for Arthur on 4corn, they’re both 512K long (though I’m using my phone so I can’t tell if that 512K is used or if they just dumped 512K from the ROM memory). Do you have an EPROM reader to see what’s on them? |

Rick – if I had to guess I’d say those EPROMs are test version of RISC OS 3. It would be the end of the line, the last time they handed out EPROMs to developers. I don’t have an EPROM reader, not very surprisingly I find one can use an Arduino. |

In a 256K (4×64K) arrangement? I thought RO3 was way bigger than that, even without the built in apps…? |

Sounds more like a very early A500 Arthur. We quite quickly ended up using (very expensive BITD) megabit EPROMs when developing Arthur. According to the D.O., Arthur 0.2 EPROMS should be labelled 0276,022 thru ,025 |

Thanks to some very generous contributions from several people, the modules DB now has additional details in for;

On the list of missing ROMS is missing RISC OS 4.05, the version for the Millipede Professional Graphics systems. |

Pretty sure the Millipede ROM was near identical to the 4.02, with just a few kernel updates and change for the RTC. Could be forgetting, but I can’t remember there being anything more exciting about it. |
