South West show

I should just like to remind people coming to the South West show on 24 February that there is a congestion zone in Bristol now. Although the hotel is outside this zone the centre of Bristol is not. Petrol vehicles are unaffected unless they are older than about 14 years but diesels are only exepmt if quite recent. It is easy to avoid entering the zone but you need to make sure you do not lose your way. For details google Bristol Clean Air Zone. |

According to my calendar, 24th February is a Friday. Is the date correct? It is in half-term, so it’s possible, but… |

The South West show is on Saturday 25th February, not the 24th |

Yes the show is Sat 25th but those from further afield will probably be coming over on Fri 24th. |

I wonder if the trains from the South West will be running? |

Trains… should know by Sunday as the unions and operators, such as RMT, have to declare any strikes with at least 14 days advance notice. National Rail Industrial Action page: https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/industrialaction.aspx |

Could there be a way of say a monitor on a table – for a firm unable to attend in person – to be represented at the 2023 SW show? Is the hotel walking distance from the railway station? |

Is the hotel walking distance from the railway station? It is just over 1¼ miles or a few stops on bus number 1 from stop T1 at the bottom of the station approach road. |

How would sales be handled? [ don’t say “visit the website” ;) ] |

I guess it’s a company who can’t make it to the Show, and so would like a little slideshow/advert running so people know they still exist and still support RISC OS. Sales would be made the same way they are the rest of the year. |

If anyone is in this boat and would like a table, please contact Richard or myself via email (Orpheus or R-Comp). I’m sure we can arrange something, or possibly see if we can find someone to cover the stand and/or answer questions. No promises, but I know that we’ve had this discussion for some vendors already. Whilst we obviously want to give show visitors the best possible experience (ie. vendors present), we also understand that sometimes some representation can be better than none. Conversely, those exhibitors who do attend in person will get priority – it’s only fair. |

Is it possible that Linux RO could be demonstrated? Do people staying at the Hotel stay Friday or Saturday night and any guide to cost for a night? |
Chris Hall (132) 3554 posts |
Do people staying at the Hotel stay Friday or Saturday night and any guide to cost for a night? Yes. (I am staying Fri night even though I live in Bristol and may even come back (by bus) for the meal on Sat night.) The number of rooms available is rather fewer now it is only 10 days away but £89 (room only) for the Fri night is still available but they seem fully booked for the Sat night. |

I was really hoping to be there today, but then last night, felt flu-ey, took a test… and the dreaded two red lines came up. Oh well. Managed to dodge COVID for 3 years. Maybe see you all at the 2024 show? |

Interesting demo of data from a Android phone being fed into ‘RiscOSM’ map prog and replaying of walks. Like a T-Rex walking around the map. (On the Organizer stand) Nice curved 32inch ish monitor on RComp stand showing off revamp of PhotoDesk art prog plus instructions on how to use it in PDF form. Large Shoebox Win PC – shown running VirtualPc SArm RO4 (again using a more squarish 28 – 32inch monitor. [Edit] |

Nice one. See what I missed. Like I said, hopefully next year. Or maybe Wakefield if that’s going ahead this year? |

It is, in April, but not quite in Wakefield. |

Wakefield Show is most certainly going ahead this year on 22nd April, although it’s again has to be in the Bradford Cedar Court Hotel. |
