Whack on the free space option while you are at it, as it will tell you all about number and sizes of objects and free blocks, a real geek option. |

It’s been a while since I ran DiscKnight with map and files options set as it produces a lot of data. Back when I was developing DiscKnight I was mainly looking at the disc on my Risc PC which had had a tremendous amount of use over the years, and displayed very little LFAU* sharing. Looking at my current mini.m and Pi 4B SSDs practically every file which can be is shared.
There are a couple of reasons why this might so; firstly the minimum object size a lot bigger than it used to be on Risc PC sized discs, so more files can be fitted in. Secondly they don’t get used as much as my RISC OS machines of a couple of decades ago, so the filing system churn is lower – FileCore is very good at working out how to share when performing operations such as copying files in to a directory in one go, but tends to loose the sharing as files are modified. |
