WROCC Club Logo Competition

To mark the 40th anniversary of Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club in April, a competition is being held to try and find a worthy replacement for the familiar Club logo. The competition is open to ALL, including non-members, with no exclusions.

The current logo, based on the green Acorn company logo, first appeared in the club’s newsletter in May 1993 as a fairly simple flat two-dimensional graphic. This was replaced by a shaded ‘3D’ version in August 1993, and has changed little ever since, mainly to reflect our change of name to the current one in January 2002. It has served well, but is now very much rooted in the past and does not really reflect the current state of the market nor the club’s activities.

Entries can be submitted in any suitable bitmap format, such as a Sprite, JPEG, GIF and PNG. Vector art versions can be accepted in either Draw or Artworks format. If the original is created in any other vector format then exporting it as a bitmap would be the best option for submission. We are not necessarily looking for a highly polished and ready-to-use logo – it’s the basic design that is important. If we do find a suitable replacement, then if necessary it would be redrawn to a high standard in vector format.

The club name is an integral part of the current logo, i.e. is embedded within the actual design. However, in order to allow more flexibility and creativity this is not a strict requirement of the new logo, but the name must appear somewhere.

The prize value is 50 GBP plus a year’s free membership (or extension to an existing membership subscription), and of course the glory of having your design win!
