Next weekend is the 27th Wakefield Show, again being held at the BRADFORD Cedar Court Hotel, open from 10:30 am until 4:30 pm, with a low entry cost of just 2 GBP. So what is there to see? There will be 21 exhibitor stands for you to explore, and see updated software and hardware from exhibitors including R-Comp/RCI, RISCOS Open, RISCOS Developments, RISCOSbits, Sine Nomine, etc. We also have several new exhibitors attending for the first time. You will be able to see things like the new ‘FAST’ computer, Pinebook Pro, 4te2 in action. Look out for other announcements direct from the exhibitors in the usual places. There is the usual Show Theatre programme of talks throughout the day. The full list is on the show website (www.wakefieldshow.org.uk). The Wakefield RISCOS Computer Club is in its 40th anniversary year and we expect to have an anniversary cake to be consumed on the day at the show. Thanks must go to Richard Brown’s family for providing the cake. WROCC will also be running a Prize Draw, with 5 prizes to be won ranging from a copy of TextEase Home Studio, a First Edition of ‘Acorn A World in Pixels’, a Desktop Dock, and 2 × 50 GBP vouchers which can be used in part exchange at any exhibitor’s stand. Tickets will cost 1 GBP each (Maximum of 2 tickets per person). The Draw will take place at 2:45 pm straight after the R-Comp talk in the theatre. We will also have our usual Charity stall raising money for the Wakefield Hospice. Why not visit the stall and find those interesting items, and so help raise valuable funds for the Hospice? We look forward to welcoming you all to our 27th Show, in BRADFORD. |

Don’t forget to pay your £9.00 tax for entering Bradford if driving anything but a car. |

It’s worth noting that that: 1. By “anything but a car”, Graham means “vehicles other than cars which do not comply with modern emissions standards”, 2. The “£9.00 tax” is really a charge of £9 for non-compliant LGVs and minibusses. Other charges apply for other types of vehicle, and 3. Given the height restrictions on the venue’s car park, you might struggle to get many non-compliant vehicles in anyway. Details, as ever, on https://www.wakefieldshow.org.uk/travel Oh, and, yes, there are ANPR cameras on the road from the motorway junction to the hotel car park. If you do attend in a van, camper or other “not-a-car”, I’d suggest checking on the page we link to either before Saturday, or by the end of next week at the latest. |

Just to add you can also go directly to a GOV UK website that will tell you if your vehcile will be subject to any charge. https://www.gov.uk/clean-air-zones This is also linked too from the Bradford clean air zone section of Bradford Council’s website |

I take it that there is food and drink in the bar, despite the hotel accommodation being given over to refugees. Oops! Just seen the bottom of the Venue page. Belay that last question. |

Apparently people from other countries also eat and drink. |

“perking enforcement”??? ;-) I’m sorry, sir, you MUST take the company car… |
John McCartney (426) 148 posts |
No way! You’re putting me on. Well, I never!
That’s a bit of a stretch, Steve. Statistically, the odds for that must be vanishingly small, though I’d like to be proved wrong. Mind you, that shouldn’t be too difficult, my wife does it every day. :-( |

Another prize has now been added to the prize draw offering a voucher worth 50% off software or 10% off hardware up to a value of 100 pounds from R-Comp. With regard to the ‘refugees’ they are I understand Afgans who were rescued from Kabul, who worked for UK forces, not people who crossed the channel in small boats. |

Many of those people in small boats are fleeing persecution and most of the rest of them are just unlucky enough to live in a shit place. Let’s celebrate RISCOS without hating. |

No CJE at the show? |
Chris Hughes (2123) 336 posts |
Sadly correct. Chris Evans has been trying to semi-retire for the past few years by reducing the hours he worked, and decided this was the year to finally do it. We did invite him of course to the show anyway. Oh and just to be clear I was not hating any refugees, just clarifing the information. |

Now tell tell us all something we don’t know…
Who’s hating? Not me. |

I was wondering if stalls could be run remotely – save a lot of travel for some. Didn’t see any such thing at the SW show. Make use of Computers :-) |

and felt, quite rightly, that Yorkshire was the best place in the UK :) |

Well, sending them to Slough would be an act of great cruelty. |

Unfortunately I didn’t see that message until after the show. Pretty sure I said hi to you though. In the car now about to head home, was good to catch up with everyone. |

I’m also happy to report that the cake was not a lie. (Bonus points to anyone who gets that reference.) |
