Public OWB (beta) release

After several years since last time it was showed I decided to do a release. The RISC OS version of OWB is more or less Webkit1 for RISC OS.. Stuff you need to know: So what can it do?(!) Since no bookmarks I use a textfile in StrongED with full addresses with http:// etc. When OWB is loaded it should open a new window when a url is double clicked. The first time it might start NetSurf. In that case quit NetSurf ( or other browsers) and try again. It has been tested on Pinebook Pro, RPi4 and Titanium. If it doesn’t work on other boards please report. Bug reports are welcome ,, please write what you did and how (hard) it crashed. Happy testing and browsing! |

I handled over the dl link at today ROUGOL meeting. I did a fix in the template file which seems to cured the url entry bug. Download this file and copy the !OWB over your !OWB. http://micken.se/pix/owbFIX1.zip And for everyone else, I am happy to receive emails! |

I got a bug report that OWB crashes if a long menu is opened anywhere on screen. I can confirm that. I have a patch for it, but waiting for feedback if it works (works here™) Currently the minimum supported screenmode is 1920×1080. |

I added a new function today ,, source view.. I need to find a icon for it =) |

Decided that a menu entry was better. I have updated the distribution archive with all patches. Those who have the link can download again! |

Widgets are still not working, I am aware of that. I am going to disable the code that freezes the system when a popup is clicked on. Example: The top menus on iconbar. In the end this will work! Maybe before christmas =) |

If you got the archive from ROUGUL meeting please send me a email. If not you will not receive any updates. The current status is that I enabled history menus and disabled widgets. |

As a matter of interest does this prog run on the Emulators? |
Michael Grunditz (8594) 259 posts |
No. It uses instructions that aren’t in StrongARM. |

Someone sent me a email for the link , but I got my answer back .. getting a security error on remote smtp. If anyone sent me email and not getting reply , contact again or message me on Twitter @QtARM, If someone here has Anton as name , please get in touch here or other place. My emails to you bumped back. |

Now that some users are running the beta build it would be nice if experiences compared to NetSurf was shared here. I had one crash , on google groups (not surprised) but otherwise stable. |

Although OWB is very fast, I don’t really use it because I first have to reset the computer if Iris was running before. And I have to reset it once more if I want to run Iris again. Or is it just me? |
Michael Grunditz (8594) 259 posts |
@Paul True.. you can get around that by doing “*rmkill somanager” before browser changing. Works here. |
Paul Sprangers (346) 524 posts |
Okay, I’ll try that (and add it to both !Run files). [Edit] Yes, that works! Thanks. |
Michael Grunditz (8594) 259 posts |
Great! |

Maybe an RMKill in the !Run file(s) so one can never affect the other? |
