Hello everyone, We’d like to wish everyone on the forums a super Christmas and a fantastic RISC OS-y 2024. Hopefully you’ll all have time to do things on your RISC OS systems over the holidays, and if real life gets in the way, then perhaps in the New Year. Either way, we wish you and you families every good wish now and next year. Have a super Christmas. :) Andrew (& Steph) (& Allan/Di) |

Happy Holidays from me too. But, remember, this is usually a family holiday. As such, it can be a very lonely time of year for some people who don’t have families. If you know somebody like that, give them a call. Say hello. |

:) For all those who think that you need young kids to be woken at first light with someone climbing on the bed and shouting in your ear – cats will do the same service for you. |

I suppose Rick hasn’t thought of attending the local church – Do they sing in French or Latin:-) Be well all. |

Plus they have sharp appendages that ensure you get up when they want you to.
It’s the “church” part that’s the problem. They’re a different sort of Christian around here and……. (too much WTF)
French. Vatican II mostly did away with services in Latin. It’s still possible, but rare. Never mind Latin, out in the country it’s hard enough to get an actual priest to turn up. The mayor’s sister does most of the services as laity (so no communion). I actually had my special day a few days ago. I celebrate the solstice 1, so now I can look forward to the darkness ebbing away as the days slowly get longer. It’s tiny at the moment, something like twenty five seconds, but little by little… 1 Firstly, it’s a real event, and secondly when working as a CA in the UK mom and I would work over Christmas 2 so it became pretty much “just another day” for us. 2 Double pay, and so much wine around that by the end of the shift we had a lot of extra work due to being pretty much the only people in the building that were still sober. |

The loading on the Earth this time of the year must be massive – no wonder there are volcanic eruptions! |

The sun is slightly closer (about 91½ million miles) during northern winter than during northern summer (about 94½ million miles), but I would expect to see more variation when, say, the sun and moon are pulling in the same direction. There certainly are effects – not only the oceans, but the earth’s crust. Wiki for “Earth tide”. |

Had you ever considered the other side of that? The bit where what you did ensured a break for the CA’s that had the time off, with their families? |

I hope everyone had a happy Christmas and got to spend it with family or friends. I wish you all the best, and of course I hope you got some good loot :) |
