Live Coding with Gerph, Sunday 21st July

Hiya,

This Sunday – 21st July, at 1pm – I’m doing the live coding again, writing a Debugger module.

For anyone who hasn’t seen them, these are where I share my screen for a few hours and code some more of a Debugger module for RISC OS. It’s not especially complicated, but it makes for an interesting project. So far we have:

• SWI Debugger_Disassemble
• SWI Debugger_DisassembleThumb
• The module is built and released automatically through CI on GitHub – https://github.com/gerph/darm/releases

This time, I will add the *Debug command and friends as people seem to want that.

Live coding is done now and there was pretty reasonable progress, although I didn’t quite get it all done.

• *BreakSet, *BreakClr and *BreakList were implemented.
• We use the BKPT instruction to create breakpoints in the code.
• The breakpoints are recognised in the *MemoryI disassembly, and annotated to show the original code.
• A prefetch abort handler is installed which recognises the breakpoint and stores the registers (not quite right, but getting there), and then calls *GOS.

And I also had to update RISC OS Pyromaniac to add an ABT stack, as there hadn’t been one defined. I’ve allocated DA 51 for this.

So what we have left to do is…

• Proper handling of the breakpoints and reporting.
• Addressing some of the FIXME marks.
• *Debug implementation.
• *Continue implementation.

The prefetch handler was a bit of a stretch for me, these days. I definitely don’t remember that stuff as well as I used to.
