After a couple of years away the RISC OS London Show returns in a few short weeks in a swanky new venue!

The new venue is even better connected than before. It has plenty of free parking, and there are two nearby stations – Kenton is on the Bakerloo Line and London Overground, while Northwick Park is on the Metropolitan Line. Between them they provide direct links to almost all the main London terminal stations.

Tickets are 7 pounds on the door, with under-16s free. This is our first ever price rise, inflation finally catching up with us. Please bring the correct change if possible (or say “Keep the change”!), or we can accept card payment.

We will have the varied mix of stands with all the latest software and hardware, plus a separate theatre for presentations. There will be the latest machines from R-Comp and RISCOSbits, updated applications from SineNomine and Elesar, OS updates from ROD and ROOL, and games from AMCOG (in 3D!), SoftRock, and Cameron Cawley.

As if that wasn’t enough, you can marvel at the artwork of digital artist Mike Rose, aka PixelBlip, as he demonstrates how he produces such amazing pictures on the BBC Micro and Archimedes, and listen to the sounds of Quincy Coleman on his AMCS sequencer system. There might even be a new version of RPCEmu…

For those planning to stay overnight, in addition to the local Premier Inn there are many cheaper hotels in Watford. These are good options because Watford is just outside the ULEZ area and only a 25 minute drive away, plus Watford Junction and Watford High Street stations are on the London Overground line with direct trains to Kenton every 15 minutes taking 20 minutes. Why not make a long weekend of it and visit some of London’s many attractions while you’re here, taking advantage of the excellent public transport links into the heart of the city?

As this is the first London Show for a while, the first properly post-covid, and at a new venue, this is all a bit of an experiment to see if enough people still have the appetite for a physical show. So if you want to see shows continue, do come along and support it. This is your opportunity to chat with developers and fellow enthusiasts, hear the latest news, catch up with old friends, and maybe make some new ones :-)

The new issue of Archive, the magazine for RISC OS users, will be available for purchase at the show. Archive 27:3 can be purchased as a single issue or as part of a new subscription. Current subscribers should receive their issue in the post just before the show. Details of the new issue are coming soon, but it’s a corker!

I shall be bringing to the show the fastest RISC OS machine. I have updated my benchmarks (highlighted in orange) and the race for the fastest machine is still on. Which will it be?

I think VRPC will depend heavily on the underlying machine. When was it tested? Could be interesting to benchmark RPCEmu and VRPC on the same PC.

I think the surprise, for me, is how poorly the Panda scores. Those TI chips aren’t all that, are they?

The charity stand will be at the show again this year so if you have any Acorn / RISC OS related equipment you would like to donate or if you want to have a rummage for a bargain please come along.
Please note, we generally don’t except donations of PC or Apple computers or software.
We also don’t except CRT monitors with the exception of anything Acorn or Cub branded.

All funds raised will be as usual donated to Combat Stress.

I shall be bringing to the show the fastest RISC OS machine.

So I shall be bringing two machines as there was a ‘dead heat’ between RISC OS Bits and RISC OS Developments.

A new version of Impact will be released at the London Show. The headline feature is that Impact can now interact with RiscOSM through the GeoData message protocol. If you have databases containing geographical data with latitude and longitude fields, you can declare these as datasets for RiscOSM to search and place on a map. Come and see the demo in the show theatre or speak to us on our stand.

There have been plenty of announcements on the here about new/updated stuff being released at the show (tomorrow!) which has hopefully it has whetted your appetite :-) Come along to be the first to get your hands on them and chat to the developers.

Note if coming by public transport that the Metropolitan line, and hence Northwick Park station, is shut this weekend. Luckily that was only the backup! The closer Kenton station on the Bakerloo and Overground lines is open as usual. The Overground runs between Euston-Watford, so if coming down from the Midlands/NW you might be able to avoid travelling all the way into central London by changing at Watford Junction

AMCOG are releasing a new game ‘3D Moonbase Attack’ at the RISC OS London show which has an optional red/blue 3D glasses mode. This has been produced using photographs of scratch built and kit bashed models:
