I’ve done quite a bit of Arabic work before for a website (doing the RTL was actually fun).
The Arabic script isn’t too bad, the main thing to realise is that arabic only has cursive writing.
There is no “print” version, like for English.
Once you get used to reading right to left, it becomes straight forward.
Getting it looking nice is another ball game though, not something I’ll do!
kana/hangul are random vomits on the screen (like Arabic used to be) for me, so there’s no way I can verify anything easily.

I want to write an app using Arabic script for personal reasons. It will be a good idea once I’ve done that (It will be awhile off) to start to write a FontManager2, on my own, or collaborating, if no-one else has done it already – maybe that will happen, maybe it won’t.
Once the days turn into 48hrs and the weeks into 31 days, 365 days in a month and 100 months in a year things may look better!

The only issue I see is that I need to do font selection based on the character set, and move between fonts depending on the character.

I assume so: don’t you have to build them from source anyway? The only issue might be if they rely on UnixLib in any way, because that’s mostly tied to GCC nowadays.

Another minor update for Christmas, v1.27 is out.
This has additional support for UTF-8, specifically I noticed the Scotland and Northern Ireland sections used some accented characters which didn’t display properly. There’s another one I’ve just found after the release [RTE] and another three in the Welsh section, so I’ll do another release in Jan which hopefully will catch the rest.
It’s still way off having UTF-8 support, but it’s “enough” for the moment and it was fairly painless to add a few characters to make it look nicer.
It was a nice distraction from wondering why the compiler doesn’t find a mispelt function.

More updates for the accented characters, fixed a theoretical buffer over flow and some really minor optimisations.
