Never quite sure whether to put it in this thread, where the offender is, or assume it will be spotted by an admin but – https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/4/topics/13490?page=1#posts-91675 looks like a human (of sorts) did this link spam. Should we trim threads like this too? |

Spam is always going to happen, it’s just better than it used to be. And no, nobody is fooled by the “great post, thank you, here’s a link that might help” rubbish…….. |

Sometimes, very, very occasionally, I start thinking that and then another routine day at work demonstrates how dim people can be. There’s a quote1 somewhere about never underestimating the stupidity of people. We’re rather fortunate round here. It may just be the small sample size. 1 Actually there are many, and one of favourite authors gave this “Never underestimate the power of human stupidity”. – Robert A. Heinlein |

It’s quite impressive how non-spam like some of the spam posts on here are becoming.
I stood in the kitchen at work yesterday and watched someone chain two 1m four gangs around a sink and then plug a kettle in. I naturally highlighted the health and safety risks involved and suggested they move the kettle to the plug instead. |

Earlier in the week, I watched two guys come into the newly enlarged factory that I work at, and install a UV bug catcher upside down. But then, to be honest, I think there’s at least one good WTF moment every day. So much it would likely be more WTF if nothing stupid happened.
I think, given the attributes of our preferred operating system, that we may be a little smarter than the sort of person that needs a “wizard” to write mom a letter. |

It appears that 2 new prospective users are struggling with the forum security measures. Who should I e-mail to see if I they can unblocked? See https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/11/topics/14733?page=1#posts-95026 Thanks, |

At least one older article has also picked up some spam along the way: Raspberry Pi model 3 A+ on sale |

The news article “Raspberry Pi 3 model A+ on sale” looks to have picked up some more spam in recent months. As far as I can tell they are concentrating on that one news article for some reason. |

Unfortunately I think that Dave H is not able to clean out that dross (unless his access was expanded) and one of the system admins will need to do the work. |

Colin does appears to have had bot-ness foisted upon him. Ah, it’s a different Colin! Expunge him my robots. |

There’s a spammer with a Russian email address who keeps signing up. I’ve deleted the account multiple times. If he posts here, my usual advice applies: ignore it. I’ll be along to delete it. Again. We have no idea what payload any link might contain. Be careful out there. |

Pathetic Putin must be really desperate if we’re on the radar. Don’t suppose it’s possible to block |
Steve Pampling (1551) 8172 posts |
Don’t forget that the email address being a ru hosted item does not mean the account created has to be used from a ru IP |
Rick Murray (539) 13850 posts |
True, but blocking Russia is a thing right now… and since |
