The South West show is coming up – on Saturday 21st February 2015. Looks like the i.MX6 is now finished – see here so it should be a good show. |

Hi Chris That’s great to hear. * On another System Hardware related note, I see that 5.2x is becoming available for Beaglebone and Pandora. Which Beagle Board/Bone (xM / Black / White ?) and which Pandaboard (ES?) is 5.2x intended for ? Or is the answer any of those ? Thanks

The OMAP3 ROM image is the Beagleboard ( or xM) – been in use for a few years
The OMAP4 ROM is the Pandaboard version. Been around a while as a beta. Note: The Pi release was the latecomer. (I say “was” because of course the iMX6 now has a version, although that is just on commercial hardware) |

Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to make this year’s show as it’s on the same weekend as Sound & Vision in Bristol, and I have friends coming up from Kent for the S&V show so am committed to going on the Saturday. A shame, as I managed to get to The Webbington last year and it was an enjoyable day out. Hopefully I shall catch up with some of you at Wakefield this year though. |

Nice… once I have this morning’s work and running around done (i.e. provided “this morning’s” doesn’t need to be renamed as “today’s” to cover a longer period than expected) I should be able to start throwing a few things on RISCOSitory – including that. Aside: Why isn’t there an RSS feed for the news page? (Or is there one and I’m just being blind?) |

Time to get your eyes tested… there are various feeds on the right-hand side of the page, including this one. :) |

My optician thinks that as well, judging by what I’ve received in the post recently – in fact the latest one is reminding me that I’m overdue. :/
Nope. Not seeing them – and I’ve just checked in a few different browsers (on Windows). In fact, here’s a screen grab of the relevant part of this page:
That’ll do nicely, Sir! |

Facepalm time – I immediately looked to the right on this page. Looking now at the news page, I can see it. D’oh! I need a break. |

There are no feeds on the right side of any page for me. There is, however, a little RSS link underneath every title (upper left). |

Those are forum feeds, rather than other parts of the site. The really silly thing about the RSS feed for the news page is that from time to time I’ve randomly tried different variations on the URL in the hope I’d find the right one by pure luck. Another RSS feed I didn’t realise about until earlier this week is the one for the CVS history. |

When driving to the show, is it possible to turn off the A38 Turnpike into Webbington Road? I tried to “View Google Map & get directions”, but the link given doesn’t work on Netsurf. |

Yes. There’s a big triangle at Lower Weare/Cross, which both Google and OSM show as “Old Coach Road”. That takes you on to Webbington Road, which in turn leads (eventually) to the venue. AFAICR, there’s access at both ends. |

There are some directions here – as Steve says, the turn off is called Old Coach Road. It’s just after the Lamb Inn, and you follow it to the T-Junction and turn left onto Webbington Road. (Turning right, you’re still on Old Coach Road, which takes you back to the A38 – the turning people coming down the A38 in the other direction want!) |

Thanks for the directions Vince & Steve, which were 100% correct in themselves, but sadly we still went wrong! The first problem for cars coming off at J22 was that this map From a roundabout on the A38, the road north continues on the W-S-M side of the M5, then turns east to cross over the motorway, finally joining the above map before the Lamb Inn. On eventually getting back to that bloody direction sign, we read its bunch of black text ending with the word “Bristol” – so not very friendly after all, when cars have to safely negotiate the roundabout’s traffic at the same time. |

Actually in typical hotel map fashion it shows you the situation but massively distorted. If you go down the M5 to junction 21 (probably not optimum route) you use the A371 to get onto the A38 and then travel south until you hit the Loxton to Axbridge (and Cheddar) road and turn toward Loxton. This is the “Webbington Road” If you go down or up the M5 to junction 22 the loopy exit drops you onto the A38 and you travel north to the Loxton to Axbridge Road. But you know that now. What you also know is that hotel maps are total sh.. PS. I don’t think I’ve been in that area since my early teens, map reading an OS map alongside my father driving the family around on hols. Pre-M5. On one other passing run heading for the CAMRA AGM in Exeter a year or so back with a drop off the M5 to a pub a bit further down. |

Sadly no info on whether there are any coach links from the southwest. |

It was indeed – The only way it could have been improved for me is if I hadn’t left the RiscPiC-mini cases at home, meaning I had nothing to sell! Many thanks to Andrew and Richard for organising it. When it comes to finding the place, there will be a much better set of directions online well before next year. I have a cunning plan! And changing the subject very slightly, I’ve just set up and had a quick play with my shiny new ARMX6. I don’t have time to do much yet (I have real work to get on with, unfortunately), but I am seriously impressed. The most stand-out thing I can point to after a very quick look is web browsing. The computer I’m typing this on is an Intel Core i5-4200M 2.5GHz, using Firefox – and after a brief browse through the front-pages and a couple of others of some of my regularly visited sites (e.g. El Reg), it seems to me that NetSurf on the ARMX6 is beating this computer hands down. (Sadly, the obvious counter to that is going to be the issue of Javascript – depending on how heavily reliant such sites are on it, it may be that they’re effectively read-only. But it’s still a massive step in the right direction, IMO.) So congrats to R-Comp and everyone else involved in ARMX6’s development. |

If it involves RiscOSM it may well work. (OS Maps – the proper solution) |

Can I put forward a request for a new bounty to buy a megaphone? Completely missed R-Comp’s presentation despite standing there so non the wiser given their informative web site. |

You saved me some money. I was tempted. Saw the one by the entrance (Bryan’s?). Very nice. (My first post to ROOL with ROS Netsurf in a long time. Ooer!) |

I’m sure if you drop a note to Andrew or Richard, they’ll be happy to include your new directions on the Show website next year! Many thanks to both Andrew & Richard for their hard work in organising an excellent Show, probably the busiest SW Show (in terms of both visitors and exhibitors) that I’ve seen for quite a few years! I certainly didn’t get much time away from our stand at CJE. |
