I’m old enough and monochrome enough to remember it used to take longer than that to get NCSA Mosaic started. ArcWeb was faster, and Webite blew both out of the water (being written in assembler). BTW, takes my 2.4GHz XP box longer than 20s to get Firefox started. ;-) |

Yea modern browsers are real beasts. But I still thinks that 20s means a lot of overhead. Chrome starts almost instant on my pc, browsers on my Amiga systems starts in 5s or so. |

Does it rebuild the font cache everytime? |

No, it’s just a huge binary and RISC OS does not support the lazy paging of executables like UNIX and Windows, so it has to load all the data in at the beginning. |

Have you thought about upgrading to a solid state disk drive. The difference is amazing. 6s to start Firefox on XP viewing it on RISCOS !RDPClient (adjusted for processor speed) |
