No idea. What is the Trans converters series? |

Look in !OvFilters or !CCShared. They are old 1993/4 and seemed to have been written by Computer Concepts and or David Pilling. |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
If I had either !OvFilters or !CCShared I’d do that, but unless they’re hiding somewhere fairly obscure, I don’t think I have. |

You can find some of the TransLoaders at https://davidpilling.com/riscos.html (all the files beginning “Trans”). |

!SVG doesn’t seems to get the colours the same or the writings. Have you a version of the MapColour/SVG – in drawfile format – on your web page? Have you done a version the other way around? Ie SVG_to_Draw [Edit] |

What is !SVG? If it’s supposed to be !XP1Dr2SVG, then now the arrowheads and endcaps match the lines, the colours in the SVG files are exactly the same as those in the Draw file it’s converted. The text doesn’t match, as it says in the help: if you want an exact match, you have to convert to text first. Corpus, Homerton and Trinity convert to Courier, Arial and Times – so they’re close, but no, they’re not exact. Anything else converts to Arial, so not even close. No, I’ve not got the drawfile format version of anything on my website, but I could put them there if people would like me to. And no, I’ve not done an SVG to Draw converter, and am not considering writing one – it’d be a mammoth task. SVG is a horribly complex beast, whereas Draw file format is very neat and tidy.
I’m not quite sure why I’m expected to be interested – others might be. What’s the relevance? |

You asked: What is the Trans converters series? |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
Rhetorical queston, only in response to the question:
Which seemed to be directed at me, as if there was any reason why I’d know. |

Trans_SVG is converter prog – strange how the colours come out wrong – perhaps – a change in the OS version used. Could try a simple draw file with colour squares – with a colour name in the squares – and see what the results are. (If I get the colours correct) |

Is there a update to Draw2SVG ver 0.16 Dec 12 2003 here? Artworks outputs a SVG that firefox Win 10 can read with correct colours. But file not able to be read by !SVG XP1Dr2DVG output can be read by both – but colours not correct in !SVG Draw2SVG output Ok in !SVG – but firefox loads text and complains |

There’s a recent v1.1.0 on the author’s site, Colin: https://scc-forge.lancaster.ac.uk/open/simpsons/software/pkg-draw2svg [Edit: I too am curious as to the !SVG application you mention – where did this come from?] |

I have now: http://clive.semmens.org.uk/RISCOS/MapCol3 – download it and set the filetype to Draw (aff). Not linked on the website, but if people think I should provide similar links to all the originals that have SVG versions on [24 hour break here due to Lightning Strike!!!] my site, then I can do so. Do these various other Draw → SVG apps get arrowheads and endcaps and dashed lines right? There are still a few corner cases I’ve not sorted – mentioned on the description page for the app – but I think it really is just corner cases now. |

I would guess it is the WSS “SVG Converter and Plugin” product. ISTR that was it’s application name. Website still active: http://www.wss.co.uk/products.html#SVG |

Err where on the site of !Draw2SVG is the converter Prog. I managed to download the bit that sits on the icon bar – but no converter Prog :-( By the way – the Drawfile ‘MapCol3’ loads into OakDraw Win 10 Ok. |

You need the “back end” (draw2svg-riscos-1.1.0.zip) as well as the “front end” (draw2svg-fe-riscos-1.04.zip). |

That’s a good sign for OakDraw – but it doesn’t have any arrowheads or linecaps, so it’s not testing those. A better test would be: http://clive.semmens.org.uk/RISCOS/TestSVG but that still doesn’t test coloured lines with dash patterns and/or moves and/or arrowheads and/or linecaps. Can’t write you a test just now because the Pi is otherwise occupied. |
Colin Ferris (399) 1818 posts |
Err – is this a Drawfile – because it gives an error and takes out OakDraw. Using the other converter prog – it give Ok results with colour using !SVG or Firefox. I wonder if the Trans !SVG used by Imp/Ovn/Artworks could be taken on by Rool? |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
Humble apologies. Do try again now I’ve put up an uncorrupted version of the file! |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
Also now I’ve got the Pi back from its holidays, another test file that probably trips up most translators: http://clive.semmens.org.uk/RISCOS/Test25 – that’s a Draw file! The first three lines don’t trip up my app, but the last two do: http://clive.semmens.org.uk/RISCOS/Test25.svg – if they’re the sort of thing anyone cares about, do let me know. If there’s much interest, I do know how to fix it, but it’s a non-trivial job… |

It’s a bit difficult to work out what the objects should look like – but going by what is like on the phone - Draw+ Draw Vector OakDraw – Have a stab at the objects One looks like a load of dumdum bullets. One a pencil. One a coloured arrow point. One of planes line astern. Artworks has better stab at having one plane. Your demo file still crashes OakDraw – Draw doesn’t load it. |

Just a note – whoever thought of self jumping windows on Win 10 – should have been strangled at birth!! |
Stuart Swales (8827) 1357 posts |
@Colin: OakDraw 1.18 on Windows loads (and renders) both Clive’s Test25 and TestSVG files OK for me. As does Fireworkz for Windows, rendering Draw files/objects using OakDraw’s DLLs. As does Fireworkz on RISC OS (and PipeDream), rendering them using the Drawfile module. |
Colin Ferris (399) 1818 posts |
Hmm – mapcols in org draw format works. Don’t think !Fireworks handles CCs Trans Series like !TransSVG converter. And downloaded the TestSVG Draw file again – and still it errors. |
Stuart Swales (8827) 1357 posts |
Nope. This thread was the first time I’d heard of them. Have they been updated since 1993 or thereabout? Fireworkz on RISC OS (and PipeDream) uses ChangeFSI to obtain a renderable Sprite for imported foreign bitmap files (keeping a copy of the original). |

Thanks just had a look. Tried loading a 4Mb PNG file on 4.02 + Ovn refused. So converted to Sprite now 57Mb. Lots of not enough memory – including !Paint Rebooted into 5.29 – OvnPro loads the PNG now – but saves as sprite. Large file now! TextEase loads PNG and when saved file small 4Mb. FireWorks – punts out loading a large sprite. [Edit] !Paint loads 57Mb sprite but refuses – PNG format. |
