Sometimes changing the User Agent can help IME; might be worth a try. |

Pretending to be Chrome didn’t help the resolutely resistant dialogue boxes! But thanks once more for caring! |

I search but I have not found in forum… Maybe I not use the “right words”… How can I use “AltGr” chars like @, € and so on in browser textfields … e.g. if I need access via e-mail address? |
Chris Hall (132) 3554 posts |
& euro ; = € or do you mean something else? |
Raik (463) 2059 posts |
The main problem was/is, I can not login with Otter/Qupzilla (RISC OS) if I need somthing like mail@provider.de . “@” “[AltGr]+[Q]” and other chars like “€” “[AltGr]+[E]”, “µ” “[AltGr]+[M]”… are missing. I have try to login at PayPal and ROOL with German and UK keyboard and “WEB language”. Have also try via !Chars. Maybe I have set a wrong “char-code”. |

A simple workaround would be to use ‘!Chars’ ? |

No. Was one of the first things I try… |

There’s a updated versionn of Otter Browser available. First download resources.zip from here. Just merge the !Boot folder to update. For a bit of extra speed once everything is set up is to add the ‘—readonly’ option to the !Run file. This helps to speed up The default language for menus is set to en_GB. To change to another language click on ‘Help→Switch Application Language’ This update is a build of Otter Browser as of 22nd September 2017. The changes can be seen at http://otter-browser.org. |

I have just tried this new version and nothing happens apart from the clock stopping for around 20 seconds. [q_mkdtemp:147:/linux4/gccsdkqt5vfp/build/Qt5Base/qtbase-opensource-src-5.5.0/src/corelib/io/qtemporarydir.cpp]: Warning: Calling mktemp instead of mkdtemp Fatal signal received: Illegal Instruction Stack backtrace: Running thread 0×7aa10c (Main Thread) |

Same here. Drive lamps flash for a while then zilch. BB -xM. |

I, too, was coming to report the same thing (same backtrace in “debug”). I have tried removing/replacing the Qt5 choices folder just in case it was a config problem, and also fresh !SharedLibs etc. No joy. From the error message, I’d guess it is trying to create a temporary file/folder somewhere, and failing. Just not sure what or where. |

The snippet of disassembly in David’s post contains this, which suggests that some or all of the code was compiled for Cortex-A7/A15/A53.

Well spotted Jeffrey :) |

Which explains why it seemed to work correctly on my ARMv8! |
Chris Gransden (337) 1202 posts |
I only tested on Titanium and Pi3 so didn’t spot some plugins compiled with ARMv7 (Cortex-a7) only. folder and delete the following files,
libqdds/so Also delete the iconengines folder in the same folder as imageformats. They’ve also been deleted from the resources.zip download. |

It doesn’t seem to do anything on my Titanium – no errors, no icon bar icon. Just busy for a few seconds then nothing has appeared. |
Frederick Bambrough (1372) 837 posts |
Presume libqtraw/so Works and this is written on it. Don’t think I’ll make a habit of it. :-) |

I have deleted all the files stated by Chris Gransden and it makes no difference on my Pandaboard. |

Works on my Titanium and loading up the start up web page seems much faster. Thanks Chris for continuing to improve the user experience. |

Works on my Titanium. It takes about 13s to start. There is no icon bar icon and any errors may appear in |
Chris Hall (132) 3554 posts |
There is no icon bar icon and any errors may appear in !Otter-browser.debug. No icon bar icon, no visible errors and thus no window on screen. That’s not working in my book. |

I’ve installed the latest version of OtterBrowser, following the instructions, on my BBxM (which has an SSD). So far, all it has done is single-task the machine for over 35 minutes, with continuous disc activity. At what point do I decide that something is broken and pull the plug? |
Rick Murray (539) 13806 posts |
Don’t pull the plug, especially if it’s doing disc stuff. Try Alt-Break to force kill it. However – do you have many fonts? The very first time I started Otter (the original) it took an embarrassingly long time to get started → https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/1/topics/3599#posts-46052 There’s a RAMdisc trick that might work, follow the thread I linked to. Though, be warned – things that use downloadable fonts may freak out Otter. A few messages down in the linked thread I got a fonts.gstatic link and… Went, had a bath, came back an hour and a half later, Otter (or UnixFC) was still busy. Give it a while longer, and then try killing it nicely. Only pull the plug as a very last resort. |

PS: Now I have a Pi2 and enough memory to actually use it, I have Otter installed, but I don’t use it much. The font rendering is… somewhat lacking1, kind of like Windows XP before they released ClearType… Is there a setting I should fiddle with? I just find the font rendering in NetSurf better for reading anything of length. 1 I think this ought to be called “The Oregano Syndrome”, that’s the last time I recall a browser deciding it could do font rendering better than FontManager…and failing. ;-) |

Works well. A few bugs. @ (who is “alt gr + 0” on French keyboard) works in Otter, but not inside webpages. It’s not yet ready for daily use, but I think that for specific websites (bank, webmail), with specific settings and shortcuts on the desktop, it’ll be just perfect for my needs. Ah, and it crashes when trying to fix/update lists for content blocking. |
