I’m pleased to announce that StrongMen 1.27 is now available from my website. About StrongMen StrongMen is a small application that builds a hierarchical menu structure from a text file. Whilst this may not sound special it’s actually surprisingly flexible. The menu can be used as an application launcher, an URL hotlist manager, a history of recent files, a list of currently open files. Choices support The use Choices is now fully supported. Configuration files are now kept in Choices.StrongMen.UserPrefs. with default files being located inside the application. If there’s no Choices directory, a UserPrefs directory will be created inside StrongMen. The above does mean that configuration files need to be moved to the UserPrefs directory for StrongMen to see them. Also the internal structure of the application has been changed to separate application files from configuration files. As a result upgrading is not straight forward, to make this easier a small application is provided that can perform the upgrade. Read the installation instructions carefully. New commands There are 3 new commands available: #Nil, #ListDir# and #ListTree. #Nil can be used to prevent ‘file not found’ errors. #ListDir and #ListTree will build a menu from the contents of the given directory. #ListTree will recurse into subdirectories. Keyboard support Previous versions used the KeyExtend module to assist with keyboard support. Although this worked quite well the KeyExtend module had some issues. This version therefore uses a new module StrongKeys which relies on the DeepKeys module for details of keys pressed. In addition to the old ^Up-arrow for Ctrl and Shift you can now also use the cs- notation which is easier to read and enter. The Logo key can be used as a modifier key too, thanks to the new keyboard support. New options A couple of new options have been added. You can select to open the StrongMenu at the right screen edge (probably only useful if you use something like SmartMenu). A margin can be set for clicks at the screen edge. The click-and-hold behaviour is now configurable and the hold delay can be set too. Drop to add Normally adding things to the menu is done by editing the StrongMenu file. This version provides an extra way of adding links to Filer objects (applications, directories and files). You drop them on the iconbar-icon. This will open the menu in insert mode and you can navigate through the menu and click where the link should be inserted. |

A small bug (or something I did not understand): F12, Shift F12, Ctrl F12 do not work when StrongMen is launched (RISC OS 5.28, deepkeys 2.06). Nota: the bug is not present in StrongMen 1.28a2 |
