Aemulor 2.40

Adrian Lees: Thanks very much, not just for releasing all this, but also for producing a version for RPCEmu, which you may recall we talked about a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I have a problem. I’m using the Mac version of RPCEmu, and it’s provided only as a binary – so it’s not possible for me to rebuild it with the necessary patch, and hence I get the ‘Overlapping areas’ error at present. Could an alternative patching solution be provided for people in my position, please? Thanks… |

Stop messing about with dodgy patches and put RO3, 4 or 6 on it, then no Aemulor needed! |

Given that I want to use RISC OS 5, would anyone care to answer the question properly, please? Thanks. |

I wonder if the patch is still needed with the new RPCEmu based on Qt. |

With even less guarantees than usual this patched OS5.22 RCEmu ROM for Aemulor is working on a Mac RPCEmu, very minimally tested that is. (The SA110 CPU type is required.) |

5.22 Aiming at the last stable or avoiding possible issues in the 5.23 nightly? |

David Pitt: thanks very much indeed – most helpful! After brief testing, all seems to be working fine, and Aemulor now works at last on my Mac RPCEmu installation. Today is my birthday, so this was particularly welcome timing! Thanks again! Now, all I need is to remember how to get my old copy of Impression Publisher Plus working again. It claims to be installed incorrectly, and beyond recalling that this is something to do with modules in !Boot, I don’t remember how to fix it easily. I’ve copied across !CCShared and that didn’t help. To be investigated further… |

Now, all I need is to remember how to get my old copy of Impression Publisher Plus working again I have a note from years ago that it say it needs cmykpal in System in order to work under Aemulor. Warning – this info may well be out of date. |

This is what I have for Impression Style.

Out of geeky interest – what is patched, and why? |
Steve Pampling (1551) 8155 posts |
Well the Aemulor download page has the text “NOTE: The RPCEmu build will require you to introduce the following additional patch (which is for the stable 5.22 release of 13-Apr-2015) to reduce the application space size, otherwise you will get an ‘Overlapping Areas’ error from Aemulor when it tries to start” which also answers the daft question I asked. |

If you can’t get it going, the necessary bits should all be in the “Wordworks” purchase on !Store – essentially this contains everything apart from !Publisher itself required to use CC apps on modern systems (including Wordworks itself). All bits have been suitably modified to use Aemulor automatically as needed (much as I did for the !Publisher+ included with Impression-X). |

That was it! Copied it across, and Publisher Plus is working again! Brilliant. Thanks very much to everyone who helped. Much appreciated. |

IIRC it doesn’t actually need to be a specific file, just that name and type in that location. |

Resurecting a fairly old post, I have been trying to purchase the commercial version of Aemulor for a number of months (off and on) but the original site doesn’t have it available. The reason is it’s for my Iyonix, still on 5.22 for reasons I wont go into, and the ‘free’ version is not optimised for StrongArm. So does anybody know if it can still be purchased anywhere? I have a demo version installed but that wont run. Don’t know if it ever did but perhaps it could be patched? Only if legal of course. |

Aemulor is now available for free. The download site is at http://sendiri.co.uk/aemulor/index.html There is a version for Iyonix there. |
Mike Howard (479) 194 posts |
Yes but the free version for the Iyonix only emulates ARM610/ARM3, not StrongARM. |
Doug Webb (190) 1158 posts |
And that stops what exactly running? I’ve not seen any issues with running without StrongArm support for the limited software that needs it now days. Also why not try contacting the author , Adrian Lees, and asking him if he has any plans to resurrect the StrongArm elements. |
Steffen Huber (91) 1949 posts |
“StrongARM” only as in “speed” and not “capabilities” IIRC. I don’t think it faithfully emulates e.g. the “long multiplay” of the StrongARM. But it does “emulate” the seperate I/D cache of the StrongARM IIRC, which is bad news for backwards compatibility. And Adrian already explains everything on the website http://sendiri.co.uk/aemulor/index.html, which I will quote here for convenience:

Don’t know how to quote using this interface, so to Doug, I don’t know ‘exactly’ what it stops me running, like the author of the software doesn’t know ‘exactly’ what it will run. I did contact the authors point of sale on a number of occasions but was still not able to purchase the software despite receiving a couple of replies. I have StrongARM targeted software and I would like to use it to as full an extent as possible on my Iyonix. |
Doug Webb (190) 1158 posts |
Mike,
So why not give the free version a go and then see what doesn’t run or is impacted by the exclusion as I can honestly say that nothing I have is impacted to the point of not being usable or in a way that is easily identifiable by the software not having a StrongArm element to it.
Well as Steffen pointed out it is mainly to do with performance so unless it is something that needs it you will not notice any issues.
It is no longer for sale as you are aware so contacting the old seller is not viable. If you download the free version and then open the ReadMe file you will see contact details for Adrian Lees and you may get further clarification from him on the matter. |
Mike Howard (479) 194 posts |
Ok, it’s not for sale, so now I know. That was not the answer I received from Neil Spelling. Had it been, I would not have asked my question here. Thank you for the information. |
Doug Webb (190) 1158 posts |
Mike, I would still contact Adrian as he may give you updated details. Just so it is clear below is the main parts of the text sent by Neil announcing the closing of commercial sales as of May this year. Doug “We’re pleased to announce that Aemulor, the 26-bit emulator for RISC OS There are updated versions for more platforms, and enhanced compatibility As Aemulor was the last piece of commercial software available from the Thank you for your continued support over the past fifteen years. Just so it is clear below is the main parts of the text sent by Neil announcing the closing of commercial sales as of May this year. Thanks again for the info. I don’t know why Neil never said that to me, his last email to me on 16th May said that the Pro version was available from the website, though I couldn’t find it. It matters not really, I can buy MS Windows software as an alternative to achieve my aim. |

I’m intrigued, what are you trying to achieve and what software is it that needs Aemulor to be full speed? |
