Could lead to some marketplace confusion with alpine |

That’s the problem with names :-) . There is also more than one Alpine software company too… Although the two games are very different. So hopefully any confusion will be minimal. |

Possibly, but there are two viable solutions and one non-viable “solution” viable:
Non-viable

Third option for the world in which we live today – Amc*g threatens legal action on whatever remains of Alpine for the use of the “important trademark” (blah blah) unless all copies are immediately removed from existence. (^_^) Note: If you think that’s a weird comment, even by my standards, read https://www.heyrick.co.uk/blog/index.php?diary=20090316 |

What? Legal complaint? Perhaps in some parallel universe…. But certainly not in this one. After all I keep releasing my source code and have a firm belief that most disagreements can be solved over a nice cup of tea. To be realistic, however, in the past – I had some nasty experiences after releasing a product for Windows (piracy, theft against it etc…). But not on RISC OS, I’m pleased to say. Fourth option: Play Alpine’s Cyborg game. Tony |

It was mostly tongue in cheek, but did you read the linked article?
Whoa. A rational response. You’re not from around this planet, are you? ;-) Fourth option works for me. |

As Rick said, a touch tongue in cheek, but with a serious side note. Ask Martin Avison about people complaining about his use of the Avisoft Software tag despite the complainants being the new kids on the block swinging at the established user of the name tag. Martin had serious numbers of years prior use. |

Unfortunately there was a fatal bug in the version of ADFFS released earlier today, which caused 26bit Modules to become corrupt, causing some games to fail. This has now been fixed so please download ADFFS 2.63 again if you’ve already downloaded it. You can confirm you have the updated version by checking Info on the ADFFS Filer menu, it should have today’s date (19-12-17) |

Thanks Jon. Look forward to trying out the fixed version. It was mostly tongue in cheek, but did you read the linked article? You’re not from around this planet, are you? ;-) Tony |

Steve: Yes, now, what was DPScan originally called? It’s like names of things take the Highlander approach – there can be only one. Didn’t bother me in the slightest that somebody was using the (bleedin’ obvious) name CastAVote. Sadly the guy a decade late to the party did not think that way. Double sadly, I couldn’t do any research (a friend did most of it) because I only had internet access once a week at the library in those days. Probably just as well or I might have replied citing Arkell v Pressdram… Anthony – I ain’t no lawyer, but I think you can use the mark “TM” to indicate that you consider something to be your trademark (it becomes “®” when registered as an actual trademark). My simple solution is to avoid coming up with anything that needs stuff like patents and trademarks. That said, did I mention the “bleedin’ obvious” part yet? :-) |
