The three talks are now on Youtube – Tom Williamson, Chris Hall, and Andrew Rawnsley. Apologies for the poor sound quality – which is particularly apparent during Andrew’s talk – which is largely because the show theatre was in a corner of the main hall, so the general background noise of the show is very prominent. |

That’s not Andrew Rawnsley. You can see by the way he suddenly shifts sideways that it’s a 3D projection. Either that or R-Comp’s been working on a transporter/time machine, in which case congratulations on the content sync. Either of these a current R-Comp development? |

I concentrate more on what’s said than what appears on screen when editing – which is why there are those jumps in the video, where I’ve removed things like where he paused, set something up on the computer, etc. It’s fairly simple to do and keep it synced with a single video/audio source… In some talks I can hide the visual cuts by using the slides from the presentation, splicing them into the video over where the cuts take place – but Andrew doesn’t use slides. I was thinking while doing it that another solution (for future recordings) would be to set up two cameras – so if I cut something out, I can just change which camera is used for the next bit of video. But then the editing – and syncing – would get complicated and difficult. =:o Plus I’d have to buy another camera. |

Any way of recording the video of the demo machine? |

In theory, yes – but theory and practice don’t always play ball. I have a box1 that can sit between two HDMI devices, passing the feed through while at the same time recording it onto USB stick. It works perfectly… here at home. However, whenever I’ve tried to use it “in the field” so to speak, it doesn’t want to work. :( 1 In fact I have two, both exactly the same. I misplaced the first one, so bought another – then found the first. It had slipped down the side of my desk, neatly hiding between desk and wall. |

Which is fine. I was just having a silly 5 mins. Probably the result of trekking up welsh hills on a little fold-up bike. |

I guessed that. Well, not the Welsh hills bit – I’m not It was something I was thinking about while editing, though – because whenever I make one of those cuts, I immediately play it back over the join and in most cases cringe at how it looks. Which is why I thought about the second camera. (There’s also a part of me thinking it would be worth trying just so I can learn a new trick. I suspect my doctor would say no to sky diving, so…) |
