Access to source on ADFS floppies.

Okay the hiatus about Raspberry Pi and the possibility for it to run RISC OS peeked my interest. I thought I would revisit RISC OS after a gap of twenty years or so. My A410 with 4M died about then. Many years ago I wrote a number of Careware applications in Norcroft C. My plan was to recompile these for 32bit using GCC. I managed to find some source floppies (labeled offsite backup ) which used to be stored at my Mother in Law’s till she passed away. Not sure were the working backups are. Probably thrown away. Okay I have used Omniflop http://www.omniflop.com/ to read the floppies and transfer to an 800K file, but I am now stuck. My second step was to buy the RISC OS OPEN USB Stick and I have managed to get RPCEmu running under ubuntu linux 10.04. But the installation instructions say that the RISC OS v5 ROMS’s don’t support ADFS. I thought that RPCEmu supported accessing Floppies as 800K files? Is this not so? I also need to try and get Networking working, so that I can download GCC. Again the instructions give a warning that this may not work. I was aware of http://www.marutan.net/rpcemu/manual/network.html I guess I just have to try. But clearly will be wasting my time if I cannot get the source off the ADFS floppy images. Advice please. |

There’s a utility for reading adfs floppy images here. If you follow those network instructions it works fine on ubuntu. If you can’t get networking working you can always use the host operating system to download and copy into rpcemu using ‘hostfs’. You can also cross build on ubuntu. Follow the instructions here. |

Alternatively, I’m pretty sure most anyone in the community would be happy to assist in reading/zipping your floppies on a RiscPC or something. And why not just use the latest Norcroft version from ROOL? That way it should just be “click and compile” rather than having to worry about libraries etc. |

The IOMD ROM (that the emulator comes with) does now include ADFS, the readme is probably a bit wooley in that regard. |

Okay have a problem with Networking. It does not seem to create the RPCEmu interface for networking. i.e. Have the same problem as reported here but for Win7 https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/10/topics/1008. Anybody able to confirm if this should be there for 5.19 |

“And why not just use the latest Norcroft version from ROOL? That way it should just be “click and compile” rather than having to worry about libraries etc.” Your having a laugh. That costs money. I am not that motivated to part with that sort of cash. |
