Changing ScreenModes

Mot sure if anyone else having this problem, but the current (and past few builds) of RO5 does not allow me to change the Screen Modes. I am stuck using a 640 × 480 resolution on my nice big monitor. Never seen this happen before, so wondering if anyone else has encountered this? |

argh.. same problem here too! IIRC has something to do with a command bandwidth limit something like this…. |

Updating your boot would have only helped if you also deleted your Choices folder, thereby causing the defaults to be copied back over. To fix it manually, you can go to Choices:PreDesk.Configure.!Run and change the line: set Alias$VIDCBandLimit VIDCBandwidthLimit 2000000000 2000000000 2000000000 To: set Alias$VIDCBandLimit X VIDCBandwidthLimit 2000000000 2000000000 2000000000 |

Ahhh! I do recall a thread about these changes now. That makes sense. Thanks for that. I’ve made the necessary changes to the file, and the screen configure window now lets me change the resolution, colours, frequency etc but the changes are not reflected on the screen. I have managed to get up to 800 × 640 but that’s the maximum. I know in the past I have got much higher, so unsure why now it is not working. I’ve tried using many different MDF’s but none seem to work over 800 × 640 any more. |

Which version of RPCEmu are you using? And what machine are you emulating? At a guess I’d say RISC OS isn’t detecting the right amount of VRAM (and therefore setting the wrong bandwidth limit). Not that I’m offering to look into the issue right now – too many other things going on! |

I can’t believe it. As per your suggestion to confirm my rpcemu settings it looks like they have changed since I last played around with them. Looks like they were back to 0MB VRAM. Upped it to 8MB and all problems have disappeared. Sorry to be a pain and cause a wild goose chase for nothing. Thanks for your help, and of course for all the great work you are doing for RISC OS. It’s amazing to see how far you and a few others haven taken it. I love reading about current and future plans. It’s pretty cool to see it develop before my eyes. |

I noticed thar RPCEmu fails to go ‘full screen’ when I select a relatively high screen mode but I’m guessing this a RPCEmu issue rather than a RISC OS issue. It just crashes and I have to restart it again. Oh well, 1980 × 1020 on RPCEmu is still out of grasp for the time being unless I get an even higher resolution monitor that will fit it in a window.
