Compiled. !System v !Boot confusion plus screen

OK, I have a freshly compiled and working Rpcemu. I am on RO3.7 and am confused as to whether I need !System or !Boot. !System does not seem to work but a copy of UniBoot gets me past the @.!Boot not found. I have got the thing booted but am stuck in the 640 X 480 screen. I can change screen mode but not to anything BIG. The simple Apps seem to work. I am using hostess but sticking !System in the adfs didn’t help and the !Boot seems to work OK from hostess (Except for the screen issue). I have successfully unzipped !System, and think I should use that but how can I get it to be treated as a !Boot. Do I rename it? If I can get the ‘official’ !System running properly, I may have a good system. I got UniBoot from https://www.retro-kit.co.uk/page.cfm/content/UniBoot-for-RISC-OS/ The mouse is very slow. I am using Virtual Box on a modern i7 and the system reports it is working at upward of 60Mips. |

At RISC OS 3.7, !System lives inside !Boot. Your copy of Universal Boot should already have it (Shift-doubleclick on “!Boot” then double-click on “Resources”). The 640×480 screen is because you haven’t selected a monitor type yet. Double-click on !Boot and select “Screen” from the Configuration window that appears. Select the “Acorn AKF85” monitor and click on the “Set” button. You should now find that screen sizes up to 1280×1024 are available (which is about as big as the supplied monitor types will support). If you want even larger screens you’ll have to find a suitable Monitor Definition File from somewhere. Personally I don’t much like running RPCEmu at really large screen sizes: I find the mouse movement too jittery for comfortable use. |

I had installed Uniboot2 in error. Result “This machine can’t be reconfigured”. Thanks very much. I have a DVD of original software somewhere to try. |
