So, i’ve tried installing RO 5.27 in RPCemu using this guide. P.S it also boots me into CLI |

That module is in the system ROM, so it shouldn’t be missing. Try typing *Unplug at the command line. With any luck it will report “No modules are unplugged”, but if you had previously been running RISC OS 3.7 in RPCEmu you may see some 15-20 modules (including ProgInfo) unplugged. These will need to be re-enabled. To re-enable an unplugged module, use *RMReinit |

I’m slightly surprised that a “clean” boot sequence (ie. not loading any programs) would be asking for that module. It is a “toolbox” module, normally loaded by programs written using Acorn’s Toolbox libraries, which install on the iconbar (ie. applications/programs). However, the Toolbox modules have historically been a bit of a special case. They are included in ROM because there may be bundled Acorn programs that need them (eg. !Configure) so they are included in ROM “just in case” (ie. in case no hard disc is available for booting). However, they are potentially out of date (obviously less so in ROOL beta-ROM era) if new versions have been released since the last major ROM. Eg. imagine a RISC OS 4 owner who has a perfectly working RiscPC, but needs the bug fixes to the constantly-evolving toolbox support modules. As a result, the first thing that many versions of !Boot do is to unplug all the ROM toolbox modules. There’s often a file called “UnplugTbox” that just that. It (!Boot or UnplugTbox) may (unchecked/unconfirmed) also then auto-load replacement versions from !System, where the updated editions would reside. This would cause the error mentioned. Normally, !Boot (or rather !System) will include disc-based versions of the Toolbox modules. So, make sure you have grabbed the latest Beta, nightly HardDisc4 disc image which I would expect to include soft-loadable versions (unchecked). Failing that, there’s a pretty universal !System update on !Store (free) that should update most of your System modules to recent versions, for just this kind of situation. |

Starting from a blank RPCEmu install and adding the 5.27 ROM only should take you to the CLI with no errors.
Press f12 and issue the following commands Shutdown/close the RPCEmu application and relaunch it. If you plan on doing anything that adds to the !Boot (like ROL derived Toolbox elements) or like to see a log of what went right or wrong during the boot sequence then download and install Harineumi from Ricks little set of useful items. One of these days someone will integrate that, or something like it, into the official ROM so everybody gets fault logging at boot time. |
