rpcemu on Genode (inital rants)

Hi

I am bringing rpcemu up on Genode.
I wonder, where does the rom endup (looks like high) and the cpu starts read at 0×0c000008 | 3;. It seems like
no instructions are executed (empty ram I guess)..

Here is what I done so far:
load the rom
init arm,mem, etc
running executearm in a loop.

Between every executearm I do dumpregs. I can see PC increasing , but nothing else.

On a very brief reading of the info I note Genode implements a secure method of individual tasks communicating. I did wonder how that might be used with two different OSes on different cores.

OK so for RiscPC / RPCemu hackers:

I am observing memory writes , and it ends with a loop to 0×464 with a big value..
I am trying to get graphics up in Genode,, in theory it is ok, for example the background border setting from drawscr can be seen visually.

Genode supports Qt , but I don’t want to use it.

New issues:
vidc vder is less than vdsr with rom 3.7 , greater with rom 5
with rom 5 vidcr & 0×20 allways is 0×0 rom writes 0×8 to vidcr
== needredraw always sets to 0

New progress , with RO5 I get to a blinking cursor at the top right. I wonder what might cause this , missing keyboard ? bad cmos?
I load the cmos.ram included in the rpcemu sources,

Ho ho, I get to a star prompt (no input driver yet).

It actually boots up to desktop , but exits directly to black screen with star prompt.

Can I suggest putting Rick Murrays “Harinezumi” into the boot sequence?
Small, simple boot error logging. It should leave a clue in the log file it produces.

Ah, I thought when you mentioned “but exits directly to black screen with star prompt.” that you had something where you could CLI navigate to a directory and insert modified files.

Storage isn’t like on other platforms , but there is support for various interfaces.

The next step is to enable Recompiler in RPCEmu.

Dunno really in the end I want to run RO5 , but from what I have experienced it doesn’t work well with discimages.

No … it is loading the 200M discimage that takes time.. Will get a lot faster when disc can be used from storage.

I only get a little bit faster than VRPC on cpu benchmark, but it is totally dependent on how often I trigger timer
interrupt. Not sure what that setting should be, I used Qt RPCEmu as reference. The cpu speed is also the same on Linux

Those two statements taken together suggest this setup, while currently marginally faster than VRPC, is going to be significantly faster than a VRPC install when you’re done.

That’s impressive

The CPU emulation will not get faster.. The things I plan is to try to make it multicore aware. The core emulation needs to be on one core , but I think somethings could be on others.

The big adantage with a kernel like Genode base hw , is that it can be controlled. I don’t need to take care of other stuff, and that is exactly what I want.
