Upgrading 5.17 to 5.19 - stuck at the first fence....

I’m not sure of the correct procedure to upgrade an existing 089/517 installation to 089/519. The ‘ROM downloads – RiscPC, A7000, A7000+, RPCemu’ IOMDHalDev.zip softload appears to contain a !Boot file but no recogisable ROM that I can copy into RPCEmu’s ‘roms’ folder in place of the existing ‘riscos517’ file; or should I leave the latter in place to be softloaded-over? |

Dig deeper, it is /soft/!Boot/Choices/Boot/PreDesk/!!SoftLoad/riscos |

Thanks, Wouter, that did the trick. I’m now having problems with the !Boot file imported from the previous 5.17 installation. The recommended procedure is to extract the clean !Boot from HardDisc4 and install that. Unfortunately I’m having problems extracting both the tarball and self-extracting versions of HD4: using UnTarBZ2 on the first results in a directory checksum error; double-clicking on HardDisc4/Utility, as recommended, gives an ‘unknown application’ error. RPCEmu’s HardDisc4 checks OK with Disknight, so I don’t understand the directory checksum error problem. Any/all suggestions gratefully received! Thanks in anticipation. |

Problems solved, I’m happy to say, with the kind assistance of Tony Moore. One lesson: don’t decompress RO items using WinZip on Windows – the 5.19 rom and !Boot files which I thought were OK, weren’t! |

I can imagine it would make a mess of !Boot given the lack of meta data support – but it is okay for extracting the base ROM image – it’s what I use. |
