Running Two Copies on the same Mac

I’ve seen in a different thread that someone had successfully got two copies of RPCEmu running on the same computer, one using RO5, the other RO4. As Virtual Acorn sometimes doesn’t work on the Mac I decided it would be a good idea to have a second copy of RPCEmu for those occasions when I want to use RO4 and VA won’t start. I saved the ROM from VA, installed RPCEmu in a new directory (inside the Apps directory) and installed a new copy of Shared RPCEmu data. I loaded the second copy so I could point it to the new shared directory but it immediately went to the existing directory. I assume there’s a way of changing this. Suggestions gratefully received. |

I think the answer is no. The location of the data directory is held in the file ~/Library/Preferences/org.devrx.RPCEmu.plist, it is external to the application and there is only one of it so only one value for RPCEmuDataDir can exist at any one time. I have several data directories including OS4.04 and OS5 which can be selected in rpcemu preferences, but only one at a time. Windows 7 is a different matter, the rpcemu application is self contained and two at once is an option. (Off topic for this forum but VRPC always starts here on Lion.) |

One obvious solution is to simply create new user accounts for the emulator sessions of interest and switch between them – each user account has its own set of RPCEmu settings. You don’t have to log out of one session in order to log into another on Mac OS; in the Users & Groups part of System Preferences, select Login Options in the left hand pane, click on the padlock underneath and enter your admin password to unlock the settings, then make sure the “Show fast user switching menu” option is turned on. You’ll then get an account selection menu in the top right of your menu bar. |
