Clonedisc not cloning

I am trying to use CloneDisc to backup the SD card from a Raspberry pi.
The 8Gb SD card boots into RISC OS and works well. Apart from the 50M boot partiion there is just under a Gigabyte of RISC OS files and applications on the Filecore part.

I have tried to copy this SD card using CloneDisc three times – onto a 16Gb, an 8Gb and a 4Gb SD cards.
There was a capacity/truncation warning for the 4GB card, but each run was successful according the CloneDisc window.

However, all three cloned SD cards boot into supervisor state and report an empty disc in the drive 0.
Looking at the SD card on another machine shows the Boot loader files.
Have I misunderstood how CloneDisc is supposed to work? I assumed it would create the FAT32 partition and the FileCore partiton as well.

Clonedisc is an image copy – ie a complete disc image. It knows nothing of the filing systems or partitions. If the original card is formatted to 8GB, then the image will be 8GB … and will only copy on to another SD card with that (exact) capacity or higher. Even if you copy it to a 16GB card it will then look like an 8GB card. Note that an 8GB card may be a different size to another 8GB card1

False alarm gremlins – or more likely dodgy SD cards to blame, not CloneDisc.
I have now run CloneDisc successfully twice including onto the 8gb sd card mentioned in the first post and produced bootable SD cards.
