NutPi issues?

I’ve recently migrated to a new Pi 3 machine (running ROS 5.24), following consistent difficulties with my previous Pi 2 (multiple SD card failures, erratic lock ups, lost data – the ultimate root of which was I think a dodgy power connector on the Pi board.)

I wanted to install some key apps from my NutPi SD card, namely Organizer and Impact. However, Organizer won’t let me save the OrgData (“An error occured when saving data: Expired 1 Apr 2012 (207)”) and Impact refuses to load (“This copy of Impact is not registered for use on this computer”).

This sounds like a licence issue, as I believe I am installing everything correctly (fresh installs from NutPi). Has anybody else had this problem, or can cast light on the issue?

The problem here is that different members of the Pi family crop up from time to time, so it can be difficult to determine “What is a Pi?”. As such, it may simply be that the software packages do not recognise the Pi 3 as a Pi…

Note to software authors: given the numerous incarnations of the Pi family and the fact that I’m sure there will be a Pi 4 someday soon (unless they do a Psion and skip to Pi 5); it may be better to test for an attribute of the OS, such as the presence of the BCMVideo or BCMSupport modules, and not rely upon variable things such as processor IDs or the like.

Checking my email history, it was shipped toward the end of November 2012. Time flies!
