Hi And, if you succeed merging, please, share your experience :) Regards François |

My usual practice is to save incoming emails that I think might be useful in future in an appropriate place on some storage medium and to delete everything else. It appears that !NewsDir backs all these up. I appreciate !NewsDir storing my outgoing emails (did I really write that !). However, I made the drastic step of cutting the Gordian Knot by deleting everything and starting with a fresh version of !NewsDir. I may regret it, but 350Mb of sent emails was too much hassle. My ideal would be to keep emails with From:, To: and Date: headers as plain text files in directories structured as Year.Month. Finding specific senders, recipients or contents is easy; I make my own tools (see Yet Another Locater here ). Merging is trivial. Keep it simple. It might not suit other people’s needs, I admit. Much the same remarks apply to URL bookmarks. I prefer simply to keep directories of URL files. It strikes me as dotty that every browser and its dog has to have its own way of dealing with bookmarks/favourites or whatever (even the terminology differs). I grant you that filers were not usually designed as general purpose databases, and ideally you need filers that can cope with user-defined attributes, but even so the simplicity of just using textfiles and the filer can save a good deal of trouble. |
