auto-deleting files

Sorry for this trivial question but what’s the best/recommended way to delete files via obey scripts?
I wrote an obey script that automatically fetches a „name/extension“ file, dumping it in the root directory. Before the next fetch I have to either rename, move or delete said file or the new file gets renamed „name/extension.1“ which changes its filetype to text.
The obvious solution seem to just include
*Delete path.name/extension
but the manual seems to advise against doing so, stating this „may lead to Filer error.“ It also suggests leaving file operations to FilerAction, which I know nothing about.

*Remove
will delete a file without generating an error if the file does not exist.

The other useful command for Obey files is X (eg X Delete not-there) which performs the command without raising an error – any error is put into the system variable X$Error instead.
