Pi to SCART or HDMI/VGA adapter

As the title suggests. Last night I discovered that my HTPC doesn’t play nicely with the VGA input to our TV (its OK but refuses to go 720p so videos are letterboxed…) which means I’ll have to put it back on the HDMI port. Since the only other HDMI port is taken by our Playstation I am going to have to use an HDMI to VGA adapter or a composite to SCART adapter (both of which are available from CJE it seems). The SCART adapter is much cheaper but I don’t know what resolution would be like and if it would work well with a Pi 3B and RISC OS? |

I have been using a cheap HDMI to VGA adapter like this one for quite a while with all my RPis (B+, 2 and 3) and I’m quite happy with the result. The only drawback is that an audio output from the converter seems a bit distorted, so you’d probably have to use analogue audio jack in the Pi for sound (you can look at my other post for instructions how to make it work). |

Another option might be to use a cheap HDMI switch box. I got mine from eBay several years back (3 in, 1 out). |

+1 for a HDMI switch. |

Does the audio come through fine as well? Also, does it keep the signal alive? I’m fairly certain that if I turn on the HTPC with no HDMI connected it will default to using VGA so if I booted it with the switch in the wrong place then I would have to re-boot it again (not sure if this is definitely the case but it was on my old HTPC). |
