Broken directory

I haven’t seen anybody else suffering from this issue, but I have to keep reinstalling my (now second) SD card every now and again because I get Broken directory errors with my Raspberry Pi. I haven’t found a real pattern to this. I typically always try and shut down cleanly and it started happening before I started testing any of my software. Have I just been unlucky with my choice of SD cards? Could it be the power supply? It only ever seems to be happen between shutting down and starting up. Never during use. |

I just had a similar issue today, I run some very old PD apps (mainly BASIC) just to see how many of them are still working on RPi… chris |

It would probably be useful to say what Make ‘Model is any’ Speed & Capacity the cards are! |

First card I used was a 2GB SanDisk. This was actually a mini SD in an adapter (all I had to hand at the time). I then tried a PNY OPTIMA 2GB that I got from T*sco. I think this is Class 4 – the packaging has been thrown and it doesn’t actually say on the card. I now also have a 4GB SanDisk Class 4. I’m going to stick Raspbmc on one of these, especially given the improving codec situation, and run with that for a bit and see what happens. I’m also going to try a different power supply if I continue to have problems. In due course I will get something a bit better, but I was restricted to what my local shop sold at the time of both purchases. |

Well, this seems to not be a RISC OS issue. After a couple of successful boots Raspbmc has started to fail to boot with a kernel panic. So, it’s either the card or the power supply (or the Pi itself, but I hope not). I am now going to change to a slightly higher rated power supply and see what happens. |
